A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have been trying to "sorta" keep up. Been too busy running back and forth now for three weeks (THREE WEEKS!!!!!) keeping faucets and spigots dribbling water, washing clothes, curtains, rugs and anything I can find that "might" be dirty - and some things have been washed more than twice.

I was doing real good until night before last - when all hell broke loose - and the ice didn't. All pipes froze at -7 degrees (wind chill -23. Son came up yesterday and started a kero heater in the basement, left to come back later, and the drain froze in the kitchen. Not that it mattered since no water was coming out of the faucets anyway. When he got back, found a leak in the wall behind the bathtub, so he turned the pump off completely.

This morning he bought parts and found pin holes in a couple of joints. Got everything unfroze - except the drain. smdh.

Temps have been low teens or below zero for days. The tire/bucket/manure plan went out the window at least 10 days ago. I have been reduced to small tubs and big bowls to water - meaning I go dump the ice out twice a day and start over. I had 50 gal jugs of water in the coop - and think I am down to 8. The doesn't count the several gal of hot water I was taking down to make ice dumps easier. Water for the birds was easy enough in the heated tub as long as I left 12 inches of water in it - the jugs would thaw out overnight - even the ones not touching water.

Last night it was -2 when I finally went to bed. I did not have to set alarms to get up every two hours cause there wasn't any water left to watch. Right now it's 19 degrees with a low of 15 expected. The heatwave might hit tomorrow at 33 degrees but with a forecast of frozen mix freezing solid on the very frozen roads. (Danger! Danger! Will Robinson) I told my son he better be careful as he leaves tonight in his big rig.

Turkeys currently hate me because they were cut off from the little run when I made the ducks come inside 4 days ago. But they ate an entire cabbage overnight - or hid it well. I have six laying hens and have been getting 5 eggs one day and 8 the next. Believe me, it doesn't compute unless one of the senior hens (I might get an egg a month from one of them) is sneaking one in???

Anyway, they may still be stuck inside tomorrow while I try and get everything redone inside. But! They are claiming it's going to be 38 on Tues and 40 on Wednesday - with freezing rain or rain showers every day until Sunday.

So they "might" get out for an hour or so.

Maybe.....:bow

I really hate Winter now.....

SPRING IS HERE!!!

20 degrees already.

My Uncle was here yesterday and we were talking about my Tom turkey. He told me of a technique to improve the behavior of errant Toms.

The bronze Tom was stupid enough to get between myself and the corner of a fence when he made is feint this morning...

The technique is not PETA approved.

It is to grab him by the neck, hold him firmly and slap him multiple times like a cartoon character, from the days when the cartoons were allowed to have slap stick comedy.

I did this. The Tom did not like this.....When I let him down he ran away and seemed to be done with wanting to fight me.-----As I thought about this, it may simulate in a crude way the manner in which Toms snood pull and fight they always go after each others head.....

PETA if you do not like this:|
1) Too bad, you guys are nuts anyways
2) the other option is to remove his head and feather then let relax in oven for 4 hours.....Which is harder on the Turkey?

Sorry it's been so rough Flashpoint. It's been a bizarre winter. Ready for spring now...
Well it is currently 21 degrees and everything is coated in ice. The drain is still frozen, but at least I have water. lol.

All the local schools either closed for today (as of last night) - and the few who did not (dumba*ses!) have called for early dismissal. I wouldn't want my kids out there right now whatsoever.

My shed is shiny and my old gray pickup looks silver. Pond is now totally frozen over because someone shut the breaker to the pond pump down when the well pump was turned off. urgggggg! Grandson went out yesterday and poked a tiny hole in it - but it should be ok if tomorrow does get to the 40ish range.

Memphis, all I can say is that I was ready for spring LONGGGG before winter came. I have never been a wintry mix, freezing rain, sleet or snow kind of person. ICK ICK ICK!

It's a good thing I really like this spot or I would have run away a long time ago. :lau

No ice here Rjohns, just rain. And lots of it. Already up to mid-40's. However, the temps will plummet by this weekend & we may get ice/snow, or something in between.

Flashpoint...I'm over it too!

Turkey's like it in the 40's. Girls were off the roost early. Daisy dancing around trilling when I let them out. At least they are enjoying themselves.

Enjoyed the heat wave today. Almost mid 30s. Above freezing so the rain we got yesterday didnt stick and was gone quick.

Birds enjoyed the not bitter cold day. But it thawed just enough to get the entire pen a muddy mess.

But the toms didn't care they put on a strutting show all day and did a ton of gobbling.

The toms are getting ready but hens. Have that I don't think so attitude.
