A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So my turkeys have started mating. I assume the male will eventually get things correctly lined up?

Is he going to hurt the hens? Right now half the hens look like they have serious bedhead from him fluffing up and climbing on them. They just lay there with their wings out like “here he goes again”

As long as he's not clumsy, he shouldn't hurt them but if he's sliding off them a lot, is possible that he can injure them. My Pebbles has a pretty nasty slice down her side a few weeks ago. I made a saddle for her and haven't had any incidences since.

His spurs aren’t grown yet and his nails don’t seem too sharp. He’s 7 months old and feeling frisky. The hens are so far compliant. When should they begin egg laying? I’ve got them on game bird layer with 20-22% protein and extra calcium.

It's really anyone's guess when they'll start laying. I've had a few hens squatting for months now that still haven't started laying. Then, I have a couple who squatted for a week and started laying right after lol. I even already have a broody! It's just when their bodies get in motion I guess. I'm wishing that my girls would step it up soon. I have lots of orders and no poults!

My hens can squat all they want. My Toms can strut all they want. It will make no difference. The convent walls are impossible for the Toms to break in and the girls to break out.

Easter can do whatever he wants. The SS avoid him by sitting on the roost most the day, looking at his silly arse strutting back and forth in their coop. I have 3 more days of heavy politicking then I get a break. He is moving in with the cull roosters for his last couple weeks on this earth.

If he is lucky I will send a Nun from the convent to comfort him in his last days. I would like to have his barring on poults, but at the expense of his personality defects, I am just not sure it is worth it.

Silly turkey birds are laying eggs in the chicken nest boxes
