A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I need to figure out how to put a new section of pasture into play... Brats have eaten all the grass in this one and most of it in the lower. And, of course, I didn't get the trees cleared in the next spot. And now they just fly over the fence in search of new grass. At least they all go home at night... But they've also discovered my garden, so we have to play that by ear... So far, mostly doing good things as in eating weeds and fertilizing, but they do like to pull carrots (baby carrots) take a couple of bits and leave them sitting on top the soil. I guess it's ok as they need to be thinned anyway and the pigs love the leftovers. Seems I'm always behind the power curve.

My problem with turkeys in the garden was that they would either clip the tops off of the onions or they would pull the onions up. Of course they didn't eat anything, they just left the clippings and the onions laying there.

Mo. Weather is terrible. Ready for spring.

Had heavy winds and misty nasty rain yesterday. Temps were decent 50s.

Today heavy winds. 38 for the high. Temps dropping through out day. Low of 24. But it was snowing for awhile this morning.

All birds made it thru the night in their new pens. Not happy with me but they are secure.

Hey guys I think I have a sick girl. I noticed she was hunkered down yesterday but I thought she was maybe laying an egg. But today I was home all day and she's been under an area of the barn with her eyes closed by herself. Im waiting for a kid to get home to help pull her out and get a look. Any typical things to look for for common issues with turkeys? This will be my first sick adult. Should have her out in half an hour or so.

Due to the timing, I would check for a breeding wound. Check under the wing, the problem is if the tom gets them right behind the rib cage, he can slice them open into their intestines.

My son is bringing her up to house. She got loose and this came out of her vent

Is that yolk? Do you think

Could be. Hard to say. if it is, I would say rough sex at play.

I found a PC hen today with most the feathers off her back in the corner of the pen. I think the rooster got too excited with her. I may have to move the rooster out. I am done collecting eggs, I think, for the hatch.
