Folks, Remind me how long I need to keep the girls in the convent before sending them to the hotel suit? I have to fix the convent as the girls have found their escape path and they're breeding with any Tom they want. They don't seem to care that I have specific breed sets...

I have a RP hen, I am willing to let go cheap....ish.

They are the ones living with the toads. I have wondered why I am not getting toad eggs. I now know why.

I saw a toad egg in the nest box, before I could get the gate open and into the pen the RP hen had 3/4 of the egg down.

About an hour later I saw a toad hen in the nest box, I went to look under her and as soon as I opened the gate the RP hen ran for the nest box and started shoving her head under the toad. I chased her away, reached under the hen and saved the toad egg.

RP hen is next bird up for a Sunday Dinner.

Happy Easter everyone.

I've got to fix the convent,,, The girls have figured how to get out. since the girls are nondscrimanent how do i control who breeds who
let them mate with whomever they want. Then when you get set up with the Tom you want them with just don't set any eggs for about 2 weeks then any off mated Tom swimmers should be gone.

I have a hen bourbon that has laid 3 eggs so far. All eggs have a hard shell and good membrane. But they all have a hole, about the size of a ball point pen end on the small end, where the shell is not complete. Do you think it will work itself out since she just started laying? Or is it a nutrition issue, or bad genetics should i just remove her from breeding.

The problem with letting them have an orgy, is the hens retain the sperm from the Toms for over 60 days, it's not like chickens that 2 weeks and it is safe to remate them.

Of course, there could be some last in first out...But some people say the hens can pick the toms sperm they want..which seems weird to me..

Last in first out was what I was basing it on..

Have heard one successful mating if hen doesn't go broody is good for almost entire laying season.

As far as keeping specific toms. Sperm. Dunno but guess I could do some scientific research with hens and Tom matings to check retention times.
