A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I got a half decent look under Tommy's wing today. He's got one nasty bruise right where his wing connects to his body. I still have no clue what happened. He was fine letting me look at it until Romeo and Mister noticed. I tried to get a couple pictures but by that point he was not cooperating anymore.

The last jake I processed had been fighting alot and had green bruising all over the place. He will heal quickly.
When I took him out of the plucker I was like oh no.

I thought I was going to cut a lot off. But it came out in a salted water soak.. I cut one spot I could remember and the meat was fine... it was just for my consumption so no biggie.

When I went in the run yesterday afternoon, a chicken that does not normally come up to me, ran up as soon as she saw me. When I got into the coop, I found out why. The Sweetgrass hen was parked in that chicken's personal nest box. I removed the Sweetgrass hen and the displeased chicken quickly reclaimed her nest box and made a deposit.

Both ladies decided they needed share one nest. Which is ok cause the bait eggs were ten days old some of them. And yall said you have had some duel maman. Each lady has eggs under them. I traded those for some i had put in the bator sunday... and when i candled last night we had veins started in all but a few. :). This mornin when we went to put up the divider both ladies were side by side then road runner left and when she came back didnt sit. Maybe it was the divider makin her mad.. so i left her out. When i went to check on goats a bit later she was back over the divider (she is a flyer) and in her spot beside the sg. So i guess she is gonna be serious after all. The sg hasnt moved cept to snarf down food, gulp water, poop, hollar at us and go right back.

Esther is still mad at the world in her jail cell and singin the song of her peoples loud and proud. She did put a tinny bit more weight on her leg today though. She was usin the hay as a prop to help her stand but that is ok for now.

Caught up on posts again.

I set 11 turkey eggs on Monday. I just had 2 hens laying at that point. But yesterday I got an egg from all 4 hens! I actually got 5 turkey eggs yesterday, which is a mystery to me. 2 were in Sugarberry's nest. Swan is the only other hen who can access that nest, but her egg was laid somewhere else and looks very different from Sugarberry's. I initial and date every turkey egg, and Sugarberry has not missed a day in over a week. So I'm thinking she must have had two coming down the pike close together and they got laid on the same day. Today's showed up like regular though.

On a good note, Dusty Rose, the hen with the broken foot, is now able to walk on her foot correctly. She still has a limp, so I'm keeping her in the hospital coop longer until she seems strong and sturdy. She has given me two eggs so far this week, but they are not fertile.
