A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well, this year is just loaded with turkey confusion... Sam's back with her poults and the three poults and new hen are still running around the pasture. When I went to get feed today, sam and 4 or 5 poults were down by the mail box. When I got home she and the poults were in the front yard. Looked out back and all three of the other poults were in my lower pasture as was the new hen. It's kind of funny... The two that run together were near the water bin in one corner. The solo poult was in the opposite corner and the new hen in another corner. Pretty much as far apart as they could get without leaving the pasture.:idunnohave no idea where these new ones came from or why they are so comfortable with us? But Sam is back :woot
Glad Sam is back... hope those stray poults make it

these little one still think I am out to eat them, but there is hope of taming them some

These little ones are fast! I had a hard time catching them for pics and then had to hold it so it didn't dart across the kitchen!
Lol I have almost talked myself into keeping the silver snake, even if she is less tame than I like.... so far she is the only one at my place with a decent hatch rate for turkey poults..... lol

So the eggs the hen hoarded were about 50% developing. Quite a few look to be about 2ish weeks along so I may give those back to her tomorrow since she’s relentlessly broody and I’ve got a few other new eggs I want to try to incubate sooner rather than later. This time I’ll mark the old ones and that way can steal the eggs she steals from the other hens :th

I may invest in some welding gloves! :lau

Hey Finnie, I think I saw the same ferret people show on PBS. LOL! They are as bad as the cat show people (says the dog show person).

Rjohns...so glad Sam is back! And yes it's back to hot nasty weather here.

Alicia...the Silver Snake did a good job. Poults are cuties! There is some value in hanging on to a good momma bird. Hey, everyone needs a good pair of welding gloves!

Aurora, glad you kept the one poult...curious about it too. Your flock is full of surprises!

R2elk...took me a bit to "digest" the opossum story. You know, a friend of mine has a pet opossum. He works for the state, who actually owns, it & they use it for demonstrations with school groups. But...that thing is really kind of cute & super friendly. And what a nice coat of fur! Used to seeing scraggly opossum, but kept clean their coats are quite plush. Of course I still wouldn't trust the thing around my birds!!

OK we may be crazy turkey people

this is sheldon.....he/she hatched last night buthat was "turtling"( getting stuck on back) this morn, so we bundled it up and took it to church so we could keep an eye on it. So far it is still alive and as of a few minutes ago keeping upright in the bator much better than it was. It is mostly resting and I am not holding my breath that it will live, but it has a chance. Oh and another one hatched when we arrived home so it now has a friend.
