A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Gusts only to about 40 mph today.
I reside in the river bottoms not much to slow it down.

I think weathermen have a side deal with grocery stores in the winter. Put out dire forecasts just to up milk and bread sales.
People go nuts during that time lol
I think they do their forecasts to feel important... most weatherdorks spent their lives as bookworm geeks that no one ever listened too during their formative years... so now they are getting even with us..

Short range forecasts here are really easy to do. Check the wind direction and the weather upwind, it will be tomorrow's weather.

Having spent my life flying.....including teaching Aviation Meteorology at the University, I agree, it is not that tough. As long as you remember highs rotate clockwise and lows counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere, you can figure out what you have coming..and beat the TV guys most the time...

My little preemie poult will not make it. It looked fine when it hatched. A couple times yesterday I caught it on it's back. looking nearly dead. I found a flayed leg and placed it in a tube. It did not help.

It is resting comfortably, so I will just let it pass. I have one other turkey egg pipped for sure did not look at the rest. The guy that hatched is 4-5 days early so I did not expect much but had hopes. My incubator was on the low side of 99.5 so it should have been longer and not shorter.

Have the rest of you found early hatchers and late comers are weak and have problems too? This guy should have stayed in his egg a few more days. I am sure hatching in the incubator and jumping to the floor of the incubator did not help it either. Too bad it looks like a little slate.

I have eggs if anyone needs any. Otherwise they are omelet bound. I might make turkey egg foo young for supper.

@R2elk I have not bought any game feed starter yet, (procrastinating) I have chick starter and 30% concentrate to had to corn and oats and make poultry feed. Do you think increasing the protein by adding that to the chick starter will work? It has all the vitamins and minerals in the concentrate.

I had no plans to drive the 40 miles to the feed store this week and am looking for an easy out...

The protein in good chick starter (usually 23 to 24%) isn't that big of an issue. The problem is that is does not have enough lysine, methionine, or niacin. You can make up for the lysine and niacin by using a good vitamin B complex pill or capsule mixed at the rate of 1/2 pill or capsule per one gallon of water. Do not mix anything else in the water.

BOSS is a good source of methionine so a person could shell some BOSS and grind it fine enough to mix in with the starter. Be careful to not add too much BOSS since it is a low protein, high fat food.

Personally I buy my turkey/gamebird starter when I set the turkey eggs so I am sure to have it on hand when I need it.

Sorry your poult is not gonna make it.

From my hatching if they hatch couple days or more early they dont seem to thrive. For the ones that are 2 to 3 days late seem to notice that there are a lot of leg issues. But my hatching experience is minimal compared to what you have hatched.

Would be interested in eggs if you still ship.

I admit to being bad on not having the game bird starter... but my excuse is... I have never had poults this early before...
