One of my chicks seems “wrong”...

I have turkeys hatching in 4 days,,, with luck.

Well weather is rainy and nasty today. Temp got to 49. So lots of Ice and snow starting to melt good. But the ground and roads are a muddy mess.

Went to a bird sale today and restarted building my flocks if birds back up.
Acquired 20 new ee hens and 2 roos. Plus 10 varying breeds of hens.So gonna try ee for hatching.

Also got 2 narri/palm cross hens.

So my turkey flock is now a bourbon tom with 3 hens and a royal palm tom with 2 narri hens and the 2 new hens.

All birds are now in upgraded secure pens.
Now just need some eggs

I have stopped building my turkey flock today... turkey eggs are now in a carton ready to be fried up...

Feedman...the weather has prevented me from getting up there. Hoping for this week! Congrats on the new birds!

Ralphie....how many turkeys are you hatching this season? How's the new little lapper doing?

The little guy was good last time I looked... I have 65ish eggs in for next hatch... and about 6-8 this week..

Whatever I get is fine... I have more turkeys than I need,,, really.

We just hatched 7 more poults the last 2 days...... add that to the 3 doz or so already running around and it's time to find some of them new homes

Is it normal for the other turkey hens to circle around a mating couple and peck at them? Or is it a dominance thing?

Its more like a jealousy thing.

Ok, makes sense. Redd got used to all the attention from Dumpling, and apparently doesn't want to share him with Cobalt. She was pecking at them while they were busy, then was displaying after they got done. And Cobalt was pulling Redd's head feathers when she and Dumpling were busy earlier in the day.
