A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Today has already been a very up and down day. Lots of high followed by lows. I was so excited to find a bunch of chicken of the woods (mushrooms) and thought that nothing could bring me back down. Then I came home to find Cuddles, dead in the yard. She had asked to let her out to forage this morning and it was such a beautiful day that I let her, Pebbles and Cynthia out. I have no clue what happened :( She was my favorite girl and will be missed terribly. It's so hard to believe that I won't hear her yelling at me to pay attention to her or feel her pecking my shoulder, asking for a hug anymore.

Sorry to hear that. :(

Thank you all. Cuddles' death is a tragic blow. I feel like a massive chunk of my heart was ripped out. No tears, just numbness/emptiness. It's hard to explain. It's been a rough month. We lost our dog a few weeks ago, my favorite hen (black ameraucana) disappeared without a trace last week and now Cuddles.

I took the opportunity though today to move all the penciled poults in to the main coop. I figured there was going to be a shift in the pecking order now anyway and with 3 hens occupied being broody, it might be a good time. They're getting pretty big and I wanted to move them before the boys start acting like boys and the girls become an obsession. I was even able to integrate Mister back in to the flock. He got his butt totally whooped between Romeo and Phil but it's finally over. Romeo still reins supreme but I'm not sure yet whether Mister or Phil took the 2nd position.

Awwwww i am so sorry!

I gave in and have the rp eggs today. She has been stealin eggs! Or i am missin the other hens movin from their layin spot that i see them go to regularly in the goat stall under the loft. Road runner i see go in almost every mornin to the goat room before i am done with my chores up there. The other lil lady is more of a noonish layer. The rp is in a COMPLETELY different room eesh! But. I have seen with my very own eyeballs road runner and the lady from last years hatch in the reg spot then poof no eggs. But i go look under my palm and wala two eggs... what the heck?!?! The palm has been in the turk room in a corner on a rock at night and of a mornin after i steal away “her preciouses”. I see her go in the goat room when the other ladies go to make business and she will lay there with them. But dang it is a room apart! She would have roll those eggs through bout eight ft of open room, out the door, round the door and into the turk room fiveish ft..... what gives. I so wish i had a camera up there to see if the other two jus got tired of her in the nest with them and went to the turk room or if she really was stealin em. Cause that would have been a crazy sight to watch. Anyhoo... she is happy as a clam in mud now and looked like she might keel me did i try to take her preciouses away tonight lol. I told her no that she could keep them and be a mama this year. So we will see.

The snake is happy as she can be with her poults. They run in and out the fence which she is not pleased with but she toots round eatin bugs and grass while they do the same on the other side. Then she calls them to her and they move to a new spot. In the evenings i open her room up and she takes her kids inside to be waitin at the door for me the next mornin. Durin the day occasionally she takes them into the goat kid room for a rest then back out again.
