A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I feel your pain. Geeze, what a year this has been for hatching.

I am leaving mine in the incubator for a few more days in case I am just panicking for no reason. That, just maybe - I am being premature on my assessments. Maybe I am expecting to see what is not yet seeable. :hmm

I have to agree - being paranoid doesn't mean things won't go wrong. This year so far - it has been every time on everything.
How many days on yours?? Mine are due tomorrow, they are still in... just in case but ???

These 6 went into the incubator on June 25 - making the 26th of June "day 1". Candled on day 10. Had one clear egg which I took out, but the other eggs show yolk(?) affixed to one side of the shell with air cells now at the big end - (They went in without any visible air cells). I could not see any blood vessels, but hey - I'm old and maybe I was just looking at them cross-eyed? :old:rolleyes:

R2elk said he usually candles on day 14 - so I figure I will re-candle on July 10-11. That should cover day 14 - and go from there.

I think I see promise one minute and then none the next (in my feeble mind). What do you think?

(About the promise part - not the feeble mind part - that is a given already. :lau

I recommended candling on day 14 rather than day 10 because they are 4 weeks to hatch unlike 3 weeks for chickens.

I don't candle until day 25 for turkey eggs to remove infertile eggs and early quitters as I move the eggs to the hatcher. I do not candle earlier because it is not going to change the outcome.

Thanks, R2elk - good point and one I didn't figure in. So maybe I AM jumping the gun (fingers crossed). (I can at least hope for a few more days :) >

well i put a clutch of 13 turkey eggs into my incubator about 11 days ago, I checked on day 7 and Finally! 9 of the eggs are growing, that means my hens finally decided to let my tom breed them...
I'm really hoping for these eggs to hatch (these are the last eggs from my hens, looks like they stopped for the season), and i put an order in on Porters for 15 poults (breeder's choice) i'm not picky about the colors I get (although my mom want's me to raise blue turkeys). while I was reading about the different colors that have been discovered already, i saw something about a Blue Narragansett (of which my mom fell in love with the idea of a blue Narragansett), so now i have to figure out how to start a line of Blue Narragansetts although the turkey calculator was very helpful in finding other colors i could end up with from my current flock, i could not find the right combination for Blue Narragansetts (my flock is only 1 Golden Narragansett Tom, 2 standard Narragansett hens, and a 2 month old Golden Narragansett hen)...

If anyone knows the right colors to create Blue Narragansetts please tell me I love having a flock of many colors, but currently about 90% of the people in my area sell only royal palms, bourbon reds, and bronze turkeys, and saw one ad about a breeding group of Midget whites (one Tom and 3 hens) for sale,(I already have the red gene in my Golden Narragansett Tom, and his daughter)

I feel your frustration... I had moved my weekend hatch into lockdown Wednesday and last night all 4 of the turkey eggs looked to be quitters, so frustrated because they were moving at lockdown. Grrrrrrr I do have a few pips with chicken eggs
My bad hatch lost 8 turkey eggs and 13 chicken eggs. 9 managed to weather the storm although 6 of them were "sticky chicks". So far they seem to be doing ok.

These are a cross between my TR rooster - a Wyandotte cross with a surprise and from 3 Australorp hens and an old ISA brown gal. Some look like the Australorp mothers and some look suspiciously like the Columbian Wyandottes my sister had gotten me the first of May. Today was their second day outside. 7 weeks old today and leaving soon! lol

Good luck on your turkeys - maybe they were just sleeping when you checked!

Memphis! - I have 3 Speckled Sussex about 10 weeks old now - 1 rooster and 2 pullets! Will try and get a pic of the group. Wait - found two of them.
