A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Well, if a heritage bird could meet their weight restrictions, I could take one, but the jennys must be over 18 lbs and the jakes over 25 lbs at check in and must be 6 months or younger. My adult toms reach 25 lbs after they reach a year...

Those are hard weights for our turkeys to meet.. wow

So it's a weight thing. I agree with Ralphie. Wow! Shame....
Alicia....keeping my fingers crossed for Blue Slates!
Had our cookout last night. Hot but fun. Of course Daisy was absent but I escorted several gaggles of kids to go visit her. They have little friends & cousins here for the festivities. Many have never met a turkey....can you believe? She had her beak out of joint because I wouldn't let her go to the party....but got over herself when the kids showed up!
And no one called my coonhound a beagle. I have to admit, he's getting to be a hunk of a hound. Hes two now and starting to mature. Coonhounds can have a "tough" expression which can be off putting. But hes quite social. Wanted to play with some of the other dogs....but I think they were intimidated with his size. I think he got his feelings hurt a bit. Hes still a big baby!!

Everyone have a safe and HAPPY 4TH OF JULY.

My 4th won't be as exciting as @memphis. But have the smoker going this morning cooking loin, butt roast, brisket, beans and mac and cheese.

Have finally gotten to the point I can get back to my house because of the water. Been a month. Roads are still soft and the flood mud smell is pretty bad. If all goes good be back in by first if next week.

On bird front down to 6 hen turkeys 2 Tom's and 12 chickens. Got the rest sold. Have about 50 eggs in the incubator should hatch end of month.

@Grammy60 welcome aboard.

Happy 4th everyone!

Today won't be overly exciting for us. We're heading to my parents house for a picnic and DH is off work for the day. We're only going to picnica couple hours then head back home and veg out... We're party poopers lol. We probably won't even do it see fireworks tonight unless some local people decide to set them off. We could probably just go up to the fields at the top of the hill and watch whatever illegal stuff people set off down in the valley lol. Our town has its own firework show but they always do it on a weekend so we'll cook out then go down and see it on Saturday.

The parade went off without a hitch! Hundreds of folks participated! Fire trucks hooked up & sprayed down the crowd. Most of the kids have their swimsuits on under their clothes. Pretty cute! Took the coonhound. Crowds & noise didn't bother him. He just wanted to play with other dogs. Found a basset....cute girl with big ears....he fell in love! He's naturally attracted to other hounds. She was smitten too! No one called him a beagle! In fact I had several people tell me how beautiful he is. Had to refrain from saying, " if you think he's beautiful, I gotta turkey you should meet"! LOL! Told the kids Daisy was taking a nap, so no visitors. And I'm not about to tell her she missed another party! She's still annoyed she didn't get to go to the BBQ! Told her she's lucky she wasn't the guest of honor!!

Feedman...glad your getting to the house. What a pain that must be!

Made it up to Daisy by letting her stick her feet under the hose. I think she'd stand there all day. Bird loves a hose. I was done after about 10 minutes. AND she was starting to doze....closed eyes & bobbing her head. She's so weird!!

So we will be surrounded by fireworks tonight. Watch your dogs...most of them don't like them. Funny about the coonhound...you can fire a gun off over his head & he won't blink. Thunder doesn't even wake him up. But one little firecracker & he wants to head for the hills. My Aussies could care less....

My beagle is terrified of all loud noises...even a strong wind will have him shivering, drooling, and desperately trying to hide behind me.
Poor little old man.

My three Black Tommies (learned that from you, Ralphie) decided it was great fun to chase Lola around the littles’ yard.

:rantThey just would not let up. Poor little Lola. She didn’t do nothin’. So I snatched her up as she sprinted by and took her into the house. She was so SWEET. :love None of my other chickens act like that. She just sat there on my knee, content as can be. Of course I eventually had to take her back out. Little bellybutton boys started in on her right away. So I took them to meet these fellas...

Now they are a tad less full of themselves. I think they could probably get through the bigs’ netting (which unlike theirs is powered up), but they don’t know that there’s no chick screen on the bottom and they haven’t tried.

I did manage to get them into the bigs’ tractor this evening, so at least they’re not getting wet. The big turkeys pecked and pulled at them a teensy bit, but the littles can get away okay and the BBWs just want it known they’re Above on the pecking order. They don’t keep torturing a bird that acknowledges its place.
