A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Is there anything else I should do for her?
Make sure that turkey cannot get to her again. Turkeys remember and since the pullet was such an easy target, she will go after her again and again and again.

My chickens are okay with my turkeys because there are many obstacles, avenues of escape and hiding places. When a turkey goes after one of them, it is usually the same culprit going after the same victim. It can get really bad when the whole flock of turkeys decides to gang up on one particular chicken. They can act just like an out of control mob.

Yeah mine get one they don't like, more turkeys join in. If they run and can hide they have a chance.

Had a roo and a jake thanks l had to kept separate. I seen the roo get out .he made a beeline to the jake ... I only had to go 200 ft but the jake got him by the throat and started tap dancing on him before I could get there.

Thanks, R2. I know which one it was—she’s got a longer snood than the other Narragansetts and she sometimes displays. Maybe a really slow-developing male? Very slow... it doesn’t seem likely and it doesn’t matter anyhow. She’s going to the freezer. I’m speculating one of the cockerels accidentally hurt poor little pullet. I saw the same turkey picking on one of the cockerels but they had a little skirmish and no more trouble.

I’ll take her out of there. I already had to move out the black one the same day I put her in, for unnecessary roughness. And I’m gonna find some spare lumber and make some hideouts too small for turkeys.

Well my rusty slate tom invited himself to dinner. Tonight I went into his pen to check for eggs and give his girls scratch. The no good thing attacked me when i turned my back! So the younger slate boy will get a chance to impress the ladies. I do not tolerate mean boys. I am hopeful the young one is old enough to mate and hit the mark. I Want some slate babies!

and the new breeder. He Is a little smaller than the original but I am hopeful his babies will get their momas Gene's there. My standard bronze are good size girls. We will see today we got the first egg from that breeding pen so I am hopeful, it's already in the incubator, with 11 from the black turkey pen.

we are getting 1 to 3 eggs a day from these and DD is putting them All in the incubator on a weekly basis

Thanks, @Molpet ... good advice. I think I’ll make their nesting box wide and low, with a hinged lid, and chicken-sized doors on either end. (The dish pans aren’t working out at all.) That way they can hang out in there if they need to. In their toolshed coop I leaned boards against the walls but in the greenhouse I can’t do that. I’ll figure it out, though. I’d like to give them at least three hidey holes around the place. It’s plenty of space but very much one big wide open room.

Plus it’ll help once they’ve been there long enough that I can start letting them out on nice days.

Poor little chicken. Luckily I've never had issues with my turkeys & chickens. Hopefully that continues.
Alicia....your getting turkeys eggs? Nobody here has layed an egg in ages. Slackers!!
Yes but we have had lights on them for a month! If DD wants to be competitive in the meat class with a heritage pen then they have to hatch in jan.
