You should be able to dig out part of it with a root or dig up a shoot with a root and replant it where it would do better. You can also root cuttings. I have medium and dark purple ones and have transplanted in several places. Great as a shade plant, too. These have been here at least 60-70 years, but many are known to be at least 200 years old.Yep different colors and types smell different. Mom planted old fashion and Persian purple ones. Slightly different colors and sents. Between me and the neighbor, on the old fence line, is a very small and old white one. Small because it's next to a black walnut.... neighbor wants to cut it out. I said no, my great Uncle planted it... Neighbors house was built by my great Uncle
I dig up runners from the lilacs every year and give them away. You should be able to dig out part of it with a root or dig up a shoot with a root and replant it where it would do better. I've been given runners but they never live.I dig up runners from the lilacs every year and give them away.
Any where there isn't black walnut trees it's either septic, garden, chickens, flood plain or the other side of the creek too far from the house to enjoy itYou should be able to dig out part of it with a root or dig up a shoot with a root and replant it where it would do better. I do that also, R2 - I have had people stop and ask if they can get one. The past couple of years I usually have a couple of little potted lilacs ready to go.I dig up runners from the lilacs every year and give them away.
I don't dig any ahead of time because I post a craigslist's ad every spring offering free currants, lilacs, plum trees, etc.I do that also, R2 - I have had people stop and ask if they can get one. The past couple of years I usually have a couple of little potted lilacs ready to go.

I think I tend to over water things.I don't dig any ahead of time because I post a craigslist's ad every spring offering free currants, lilacs, plum trees, etc.
The biggest problem are the people that think they can plant them and expect them to live and grow without watering them.
Not me. Tv is out of order for the 100th time. I think the hound may have chewed a cable somewhere. . .but I don't know. Internet still works.Anybody watching the super bowl? I'm in it for the commercials. Don't really care who wins. Going down the street for a neighborhood party. I guess I'm in it for the food too. Daisy wanted to go to the party. Its past her bedtime.
