I'm assuming an "open" referrs to a break somewhere in the heating element circuit--possibly a break in the element itself. After years of service, element wires can become corrupted and brittle--easily broken, or even burned out like a light bulb filament. Or there might be a break somewhere else in the circuit, a bad switch (thermostat), broken connection...

Yes, they plan on coming home. Hopefully they get to.

So sweetheart the turkey hen has decided to take a second shot at being a mother! This is the hen that hatched 4 out of 8 eggs.. at last count she had 8 eggs and was sitting tight so I closed the house and we will see how she does!

Cynthia has gone in to mommy mode! She and the showgirl have 4 babies so far. They haven't left the nest but when i get close, Cynthia fans out her tail, opens out her wings and stretches her neck and makes noises. She won't do anything to me but I feel for the rooster who gets too close to that nest! She seems pretty welcoming to any hens though lol

An open what?

an open is where a circuit “opens” versus one that “shorts out”

If you multimeter on the element and check for continuity you can tell.

You can use a jumper across the wafers to see if they are working. Once you jump wafer if the element heats its the wafer. It would be low temp wafer not the high or limiting wafer.
