A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Why are turkey genetics so much different than chicken genetics? A good example I came across was with Porters turkey calculator. If I have a Sweetgrass tomand I mate him to a royal palm hen I get Sweetgrass poults........huh? Hows that possible when only one of the parent stock is sweetgrass? Wouldnt the poults be half sweetgrass and half royal palm......instead of all sweetgrass?

I guess the sweetgrass is a dominant gene? Im totally dumb with the turkeys

Bummer Memphis!

Enjoy a night out on the town!

did you understand my answer, I think I have it right, it has been over 40 years since I had a college level class on genetics but I think I have it right, recalling a Pundit square.

There is no recessive to worry about, the ngng does not exist in the sweetgrass so it cannot be passed on.

Wow Ralph! I'm impressed! Same with my australian shepherds. If both parents don't carry the red gene, even if one is red, they won't produce red puppies.

I have the best Lappers! I swear Daisy would sit on my lap all day if I let her! I have noticed that my chickens are much more dedicated forgers that the turkeys. The turkeys do eat stuff, but mostly would rather hang out.

Question answered; -)

I let my turkeys out to free range a bit today. They were so excited, jumping around and playing :) they had to relearn to come when I call them though. Only took a second with some corn :)

Aurora, does Adam play too? Everytime mine get let loose they run & flap. If I kick the soccer ball it's game on!

Here is my game birds netting, As you can see, I fixed it!

Wire ties are as handy as duct tape as you can see.

It only took me a couple minutes to fix. I did it after 6 hours of plowing snow, wet heavy snow.

As you can see the netting tore and slid down the pole. I simply tied a gob of wire ties and put up a cross member to hold up the netting.

The next two pictures just show the netting going off the supports. They also show the netting fairly well.

The next one is one of my first attempts to keep the netting from sagging. An Owl hit the netting hard and pushed it down and took a guineas head off, so I added the two side poles to keep the netting tauter.

The above shows how I connect the netting to the fence. I run a top and bottom board and I attach netting to the top with a lathe.

Hopefully that answers whomever asked about the netting earlier today, I have a short memory..

Memphis-
