I agree with @Molpet . Do not mix the grit with the feed.I have been checking all the bushes. They have lots of nest boxes etc. They have flint grit mixed in food, and oyster shell is free choice. Is this fine?
So i was up in the coop earlier, cleaning it, when one of my turkeys comes up and starts making this really weird noise. The only way I can describe is that it was like she was trying to do a horse impression. Well, she obviously didn't want me in there, so i went and ate my dinner. About an hour later, i returned and in the corner there was one big speckled turkey egg! I am so happy! I think I will have it fried tomorrow for breakfast. Thanks for the help everyone!Every small predator will eat eggs given the opportunity. foxes, skunks, mink, weasels, badgers, snakes, dogs, and a lot of other critters. Sometimes you even get an egg eater hen. they can spoil things for the other hens. Some predators leave very little evidence besides missing eggs.
I leave a marked egg as a bait egg. If all the eggs disappear they think a predator got it and it's not safe... some go and find a hidden spot to laySo i was up in the coop earlier, cleaning it, when one of my turkeys comes up and starts making this really weird noise. We don’t have skunks around here. We have liberals instead.I had them laying in certain nests just fine. But then skunks started raiding all the bait eggs and they scattered
I've been worrying about you due to your proximity to complete insanity city. Don't ever stop posting or I'll assume the crazies got you!We don’t have skunks around here. We have liberals instead.
