A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

The mud is horrific everywhere. I've almost gotten my foot stuck in the mud in the turkey pen multiple times lately :/ We've had almost nonexistent snow so far and very little below freezing weather.
Yes, I know what you are talking about everything has been a muddy mess been putting a light layer of straw down just to keep birds out of solid mud. But so muddy it only lasts a week or so but does help.

today is above zero and sunny. It is going to get up to 18F today, supposedly! first sunny day in about 5 days, and it hasn't been above freezing for 2 weeks. been below zero about a week, so today I will be kicking the kids out to sled in the sunshine. 18 is practically sub tropical!
It is sunny and 15°F here. Of course the wind is here too.

Who did this to my hen? She's missing a bunch of feathers and hiding in the chicken run, won't come out.

I don't think it was a ground predator, unless a coyote got past the electric fence. There were 10-15 wild tom turkeys in the yard this morning (they can fly over electric fence). Could they have ripped out her feathers like this??? There's also a red tail hawk sitting in the tree right now. Who to blame?

My turkeys all took off at dusk. They went over the fence and disappeared into the woods. I could hear them in the trees, but can't see them. A night predator must have attacked them on the roost last night, because now they don't wanna sleep here. Only the two fattest males are left in the yard, sleeping in the normal place.

I made a mistake. The turkeys did not actually disappear into the woods, but they were all roosting in the chicken coop! They were there again tonight. I must have the only turkeys in the world who like to sleep in a coop.

Mine always slept in a coop. I didn’t allow them to stay out at night.
