I have a wild hen show up every year. The law here is that her and her offspring belong to the State.@R2elk Not sure if you discussed this anywhere, but you said that you have a wild turkey hen who adopted into your flock, right? What do you do with the eggs/poults every year? Are you allowed to keep them or sell them?
I let the hen come and go without any interference from me. They typically make their nest in my lower field. So not a problem to deal with the eggs or the poults.
One year the hen brought her nearly grown juveniles with her to visit. There were two toms in the group. I bought 2 fall turkey hunting licenses and solved the problem of having wild toms here. The people that got them said they were delicious.
In the past some wild turkey eggs have turned up in a domestic hen nest. Fortunately for me none of them hatched. One wild hen did hatch two in a shared nest. The first was killed while hatching and the second I believe was killed by the tom at two days old.
It would be illegal for me to keep the poults or to sell them.
Every state has its own laws which is why a person must research their own state laws.
No matter what a person does, it is best to keep your mouth shut and definitely not post about it on a public forum.
