It's cold here too. 36 degrees currently! However it will warm up this week into the 70's. Weird weather. Ralph, your signature is hysterical!
I agree, you'd think they would want to promote classes for these kids interested in poultry.
Chaos. ..when are you setting eggs!![]()
The Creamettes are the biggest disappointment in birds I have ever had. I paid a kings ransom for a breeding trio. I got a terrible hatch rate from them. They lay eggs every blue moon. They are skittish and are somewhere between lurkers and Belly buttons.
When I let them free range I get a view of one every couple days. They hate to be held, They do not even like to be looked at. I have not let mine free range for months. I have not gotten an egg since Thanksgiving. I have been using artificial light on them since before thanksgiving.
They should all be laying! I have a large run 10x60 ft for them. they have a 8x16 coop. It is well ventilated and they are kept out of the "draft" with netting. They have a tunnel to a "cafeteria". The cafeteria is another building 8x16 ft coop with food and water. There is a 2x4 two story box with nest and roost boxes off the run too. They have lots of room.
Everyday I open the coop expecting to find eggs, everyday I am disappointed.
The only thing they have going for them is they are super eye candy and the eggs wen you get them are the most beautiful blue.
I am actually thinking of selling them all. Mine were first place at a big show up here two years ago, so I have good stock, but,,,, They are not what the CLB fanatics claim they are. Holm has Cochin's from the same lady I got the Creamettes from, and his were Champs, if he got the ones I think he did. Either way the lady could raise great birds.
I know the CLB people on here say they are good for 280 eggs a year. The only way I could get 280 eggs would be to own 400 creamettes.
