A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

It's cold here too. 36 degrees currently! However it will warm up this week into the 70's. Weird weather. Ralph, your signature is hysterical!

I agree, you'd think they would want to promote classes for these kids interested in poultry.

Chaos. ..when are you setting eggs!

The Creamettes are the biggest disappointment in birds I have ever had. I paid a kings ransom for a breeding trio. I got a terrible hatch rate from them. They lay eggs every blue moon. They are skittish and are somewhere between lurkers and Belly buttons.

When I let them free range I get a view of one every couple days. They hate to be held, They do not even like to be looked at. I have not let mine free range for months. I have not gotten an egg since Thanksgiving. I have been using artificial light on them since before thanksgiving.

They should all be laying! I have a large run 10x60 ft for them. they have a 8x16 coop. It is well ventilated and they are kept out of the "draft" with netting. They have a tunnel to a "cafeteria". The cafeteria is another building 8x16 ft coop with food and water. There is a 2x4 two story box with nest and roost boxes off the run too. They have lots of room.

Everyday I open the coop expecting to find eggs, everyday I am disappointed.

The only thing they have going for them is they are super eye candy and the eggs wen you get them are the most beautiful blue.

I am actually thinking of selling them all. Mine were first place at a big show up here two years ago, so I have good stock, but,,,, They are not what the CLB fanatics claim they are. Holm has Cochin's from the same lady I got the Creamettes from, and his were Champs, if he got the ones I think he did. Either way the lady could raise great birds.

I know the CLB people on here say they are good for 280 eggs a year. The only way I could get 280 eggs would be to own 400 creamettes.

Creamettes are cute. Personally I think a Speckled Sussex is cuter! I like their body type. Love their feathers. I'm just stuck on that breed. I love their temperament. Haven't have a drama queen yet. And they are pro foragers. Only draw back is they lay a mid-size egg. Which doesn't bother me, but might some folks.

Have you ever got chickens from Duane Urch/Towline? He's in Minnesota, somewhere. One of the kids here got chick's from him & really cleaned up at the shows. I've always heard how nice his birds are.

I have not gotten any from him. I have heard he has great Dominiques. They are on my radar. I like barred birds. I only have one barred rock left (Pocahontas). I would like to get more of them.

I am trying to slowly go to more quality birds instead of just birds. That said I have no complaints with my BA and EE, they lay like crazy and are all sweethearts, even if they are not show winners.

I've heard nothing but good things about Urch's birds. Not sure what he is breeding these days. I like my BA's too. Thelma is always at my feet. She evens grooms Daisy. Will peck little things off her beak. If Daisy is in my lap, Thelma will perch on the chair arm.

I just found my turkeys new nest, in the turkey coop. I prepared a doghouse with hay and cedar branches and put her in it, she didn't like it. Then she stopped laying.... Looked in the doghouse... she has seven eggs!!!!!

I love my CCLs. My adult hen is a doll baby, easy to catch and hold and rather affectionate. Sky was my first cream legbar so I had to get more. She does drive me crazy a bit as she has this crazy drive to start hidden nests and tends to talk other girls into following her to them to lay. She's got a lot of good in the hackles unfortunately but her personality is wonderful. They're all confined today because of her drive to lay in wierd paves lol. I have 3 more pullets and a young cockerel growing out now. they're more skittish but I didn't raise them. I got them at 6 weeks old and they went straight to the coop with everyone but I'm slowly working on them.

Sunny and Luna I think will be my foundation pair though. They're best looking and most promising.

Look what Penguin talked the others into doing today!

The DW is not going to like this..

Notice how they are all looking at me while I am asking them to get down...

And here is Penguin giving them the idea:

Sorry about the color on the above one, it was so dark and when I lightened it the snow turned bluish grey and the deck green.

I have tried, maybe not hard enough, I just cannot really love my Creamettes and creamers. I like having them but they just are so, so-so to me...

Here is a Ginger's pictures, he posed for Porters website today. These are the four I sent him to see if he can use them.

Notice a Belly Button had to make an appearance in one, he could not let Ginger have his day. BTW Ginger really was strutting for these!

Wow Ginger! Boy he's handsome! And I dare say, so is Penguin. Love the shot of them on the roof! Turkeys just wanna have fun!

Don't know how you can expect then to stay off the deck when you've built the perfect turkey roosting railings! :D

x2 - they are both beautiful birds!! I agree about the railings too - build turkey rails and then expect them not to use them?? :p
