A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I hope more hunters get the message, but really once the birds go feral I guess it doesn't really matter. It is definately nice that he admitted that domestic and wild turkeys are the same species, because they sure are! lol. My birds have some decendents among the local wilds, because of wild hens coming, and also because I know that several folks that have bought birds have had a few go feral.
Once it’s feral it’s fair game, lol

How are your 9 new poults doing, I have never raised any painted varieties.

They are doing great. Very lively and friendly little things. I will likely rehome the whites to my friend who is looking for some turkeys. I thought I might lose the little chocolate tuxedo for a day or two because she kept flipping over but she seems okay now. The painted are my favorite. I have 9 more eggs due to hatch next week.

Here is my little grizzled black painted Jenny. She was fired up when the sun came out after some rain. She strutted a little but I didn’t get a pic in time.

Awww I lover her wing feathers with the black quills and edges, reminds me of frill stencil in pigeons.

@Bantambird
What happened to Zeus?
He crawled through the chain link fence that lines the interstate and was immediately hit by a pickup. We don't think the driver was paying attention because Brian says he didn't swerve or slow down, we just heard it happen. He slipped out while I was busy cleaning the siphon that crosses the interstate.
One of the biggest killers of Livestock guardians is that they want to roam, and I have interstate on 3 sides of me. i live in the middle of a junction. The fence is 6 foot chain link, but he managed to find a spot along the ground that he could just wedge under. He died immediately.

My lesson from this, is that a fence just isn't enough when you have a certain amount of acreage. I will be investing in a GPS fence collar. I had come to rely on him so much in those 2 years. It has been a non stop tear fest. My son is absolutely floored. He dug the grave practically himself. He made a cairne on top. He even managed to dig it 5 feet deep. I will not be making the mistake of just trusting the fences, even 6 foot chain link. They said there is truely not a fence that will keep in a determined guardian, I learned that in the hardest way.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm sure the driver didn't see him, because no one would want to hit something that large.
At least it was quick.
