Genotype for Bourbon red is bb rr

The reason I asked was he appears lighter than the ones on Porters. I really do not know Bourbon reds though. I trying to hone my skill at picking out genotypes, as you can see, I am failing miserably....

BTW he is such a good looking guy, I need his babies!


It is getting cold here for next couple days, so there goes my building of more breeding coops.



R2elk you have no idea how much I would enjoy a visit with you to get seedlings and pick your brain on turkeys... If you were not 2 days drive away, I would be there.

I do agree that he is lighter in color than a typical Bourbon red tom. Maybe I should ask Porter his opinion, just to see what he says.

I would he is so amazing with his skills.

I showed a picture of Penguin as a baby to him for a completely different reason. He knew he was a rusty black by the baby picture! It took us 6 months here to figure it out. Between him and R2elk I feel we are in good hands.

I forgot to mention, I went shopping on Amazon this morning.

I have 3 thermometers in my incubator, not including the worthless one that came with it. They all read different numbers. So I went looking for a "certified" thermometer.

I found one for $19.95. It is used to monitor a woman fertility cycle. It will be a pain to use, but I only plan to use it enough to note the errors on my other thermometers.


Have I mentioned how much my DW hates me going to Amazon?

The guy that is taking Ginger wants a friend for Ginger. I suggested Penguin (told a white lie and said they were best friends). He is glad to take Penguin. He does not want any hens just a couple buddies!

Yay for Penguin! Hope he loves out a long and happy life with Ginger

I'm curious about what Porter says too. I keep checking back but nothing yet lol.

Oh and there's peeping coming from the incubator! Those nice, dark Marans eggs that memphis demanded a pic of the other day are trying to hatch. I can't wait to see these babies. Supposedly, they're from some really nice lines so I'm anxious to see how they grow out. As lousy as they were packaged, I'm amazed any developed. Especially since they were a day late to be delivered because the post office took them to the wrong town and they were shipped during Christmas shopping season (arrived Christmas Eve). They were individually wrapped in a single paper towel, thrown in an egg carton, which was then wrapped in cellophane and rediculously duct taped shut to the point where I thought I did more damage opening them then the postal service did delivering them! So yeah, I'm happy to hear peeping lol.
