I hope JJ gets better. Maybe Mr. T can teach the hens he gets to go in the coop when it starts getting dark. He is too big of a sissy to stay out. Unless the hens stay out then he will stay out.

ok, I'm going to photo bomb now since everyone's been bugging me all day for pics. Some are from before I moved the bigger chicks, some are from after, and unfortunately, all are from before I cleaned out the brooder lol. It's clean now.

I've never found poults hard to raise at all. I've always had them with chicks to teach them, but they are more trainable than chicks. If I pick up feed between my fingers, only the poults rush over to peck at it. If I so much as point closely to the feed, they get so excited and start eating it eagerly even though I saw them picking at it causally like the chicks only moments earlier. Then there is the fact that with a little attention they want more, so the tame ones come to me even at a week old and stand still while I slide my hand under them and lift them up. The chicks never do that. That's why I tell my customers that chicks are the "gateway drug" to turkey poults, LOL. Once you've raise a poult, the chicks just seem so "ordinary".

I wanted to add that I pulled 12 poults from the hatcher and have no chicks young enough to go with them. They are right now eagerly eating gro-gel and I am very confident they will drink and eat crumbles without any chicks needed to tutor them.
Maybe heritage type turkeys are better about this, but I don't buy all the wisdom about how they are harder than chicks to raise.

Aurora, they look great! Nice mix of colors. I agree with Fiesty, those big eyes are hard to resist! I'd be sitting in the brood with them full time!

Ralph...that baby is darling! Don't blame Coffee for carrying her's around in her bra!

OK Dheltzel....your not off the hook! Take pictures of those baby poults! Your holding out on us! Would love to see pics of your mottled turkeys. Ralph posted several of his toms on Porters genetic Facebook page and he identified some of the more unusual colors. He might be able to confirm if it's a silver dappled mottled.
