my turkey I raised for thanksgiving last year

That's a pretty boy! - bourbon red?

OMG Feisty!! She's gorgeous! I've never seen one colored like her before! Better be safe then sorry. I'd keep her separated for a few weeks. BUT...the good news is you can sit in there with her get her used to you!! She really is cute!!

I'm pretty excited to get another hen! The neighbors keep theirs mostly as pets, so they are used to people - and I hope she'll get used to us. I feel awful about fencing her when she's never been fenced before, she keeps flying into it and I'm a little concerned that she'll hurt herself on it :(. I didn't want her to be lonely since she's used to running with about 10 turkeys and countless chickens - so I parked the tractor where she can see everyone. I put some treats in for her which she is currently ignoring, but I hope she'll chill out soon. I'll spend some time out there tomorrow nearby so she can get used to seeing me.

Had the boys out to run for awhile today - they had lots of fun. Turkules was being a jerk again - kept running at me whenever I turned my back on him. On the upside, the bourbon boys beat him up every time he tried to get me lol. They are fantastic body guards :p

Feisty Nice bird...

Turkeles and Porter must be kindred souls. He was following me all over today, I think he planned to attack, but I did not allow him the chance. I had to walk him down a couple times. Good thing you have a body guard too..

This time of the year all toms start to act stupid.

Francenpants Welcome to the thread..

Welcome francenpants.

Feisty beautiful hen. In my past experience in introducing adult turkeys. The hens seem to show more dominance towards new birds than the toms do. (Unless its another tom).

Not turkey related set a dozen welsummer eggs in the incubator.

So my neighbor texted this morning and said they had a spare hen, she's a chocolate (likely a cross since their birds free range and they have multiple toms). She's one of this past year's poults and they were not sure if she's started laying yet or not. They brought her over and she's now in a tractor next to the fenced run so she can see the other birds. I haven't introduced grown birds before - any tips? I thought she probably needed to get used to where home is before I let her run around - since where she came from is close by? I didn't know whether to stick her in with my birds directly or not. I know people say to quarantine them - any thoughts? She really hates the fencing and I feel terrible about keeping her in there.

Very pretty.

You have too many toms to just put her in with them all. Now if you have a place where you can put her and Big Bird in with one tom that would probably work. Another option is to put her in with Big Bird and the chickens. Whenever you do introduce her to the other turkeys, you need a large area so they can each get away from each other while they are sorting out their pecking order.

If she is a pure Chocolate, crossing her with a Bourbon Red tom will produce 100% Rusty Blacks.

It does look like she is not a pure Chocolate. She seems to have too much white on her feathers.

Feisty...Turkulus is a bronze....right??

Remember when Aurora got Adam, he banged his head on the top of the brood for several days. She sat in there with him and he ended up snuggling. When I got Annie, she was running loose in a field. Didn't take her long to decide I was her best friend. :D.

My first turkeys. Was given 3 year old Bourbourn red Tom. Found him a "girlfriend" (arranged marriage) Bronze 1 year old hen. Have chickens and have always wanted turkeys. This is an experience. He actually "puffed" out this morning at feeding time for me the first time!
