A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I am thinking of selling trained Toms.

Last night bed time was a real experience. One I did not think I would ever see. My wife even called me a liar when I told her about it.

I Was in the shed working, I came outside and I only had 5 turkeys. I did not see JJ. Of course, I was immediately worried about JJ. Thinking the worst I went looking for him. I checked the chicken coop. No JJ.

I looked in the turkey house, No JJ. I went to the turkey pen and looked inside it, No JJ. The turkeys did not follow me which was unusual. I stood outside the pen gate about 15 ft. I started calling JJ thinking I would hear him answer me.

I got answers. lots of answers, every Tom was gobbling when I yelled for JJ. They came walking towards me. The turkey pen is about 100 yards from the shed I was in and they were outside of. The Tom came around the corner, No JJ.

I kept calling and gobbling at them. Finally JJ walked around my truck trailing the rest of the turkeys. I just kept Gobbling ( telling them in turkey to get in the pen). They just kept gobbling back. Had anyone seen this I would have been locked up for a 72 hour evaluation.

I would gobble and they would gobble. They got closer to me and I pointed at the gate. Told them to get in the pen. They just gobbled back and walked right in the gate!

JJ bringing up the rear.

It was amazing, I have trained turkeys, (last night).

Are they understanding you finally?

Or did one of them sneak in or spy from the deck and out out the true meaning of freezer camp

You have threatened them.

Relayed to the others so now are all on best behaviour.

My Tiurkeys Toms are belly buttons tonight. Everyone last one of them. I have chased them for over an hour putting them to bed. I even took the lord's name in vain while talking to them.

I told the last two If I had the time and got my hands on them they were headed to the freezer. That is one blue and Porter.

I locked the four inside and wished the owls and eagles a good meal!

I needed to be gone a half hour ago. I am home alone my DW has went away for a few days and these guys decided to play games again!

I hate turkeys!!

AHA! Time for ducks!

My turkeys were having a blast today running around the yard. I decided to let them or to run since I didn't have any plans to leave. I had thought that they ran off on me but they were back in their coop.

In other news, I believe I now have another broody turkey. I noticed someone else had a pretty bare belly this afternoon like she'd been picking out feathers. Well, tonight when I was tucking them in, there was a Bourbon red girl in Pebbles' neat. She had stolen all the eggs and had them under her. Now, she's one of the ones that runs from me if I try to touch her so when she just made noises at me when I picked her up and made no attempt to fly or move, I think that gives it away. I stuffed her in the other nest so we'll see what she does tomorrow. She's one that I would probably fear of seriously broody. She's NOT a friendly one and is one of the ones I have up for sale.

She stole Pebbles eggs? Theif!! Pebbles just let her steal them? Where was Pebbles, is she not sitting any more? How nice that they cooped themselves. My girls know when it's bedtime. They know the routine. Not sure what's up with Ralphs boys! :D

I think she basically just slowly wiggled herself under Pebbles and slid the eggs under her. Either that our sick in when she got up to eat. Pebbles was half covering my other hen when I found them. It was rather comical looking!

Did you get pictures of both trying to set on the same eggs? That would be priceless...

I had to go babysit my grandkids last night so I tried to put the turkeys to bed an hour early. The hens were still outside in their pen. The boys did not want to leave the hens. They were just little Belly Buttons. I have not looked out to see if the blue one and Porter are still alive.

Nathan. Why would I want ducks?

Me getting ducks because I am ticked off at my Toms Would be like a guy with a broken knee taking a hammer to his good knee. It makes no sense.

I am hoping the Toms and I can make up today.

Get a couple of 10ft. long bamboo garden stakes (very light wt.). When herding the turks, open the gate, place one stake in either hand - and stretch your wings! So, with arms outstretched to sides you now appear to the turks to be a 24ft. wide wall. Slowly move the turks to the required location. Read an old ag journal that described the 20 mile 300 turkey flock "drive to market" being conducted by just three boys with sticks. Couple of downed branches works, here, when the toms want spend the night out-about-and-sparring instead of returning to run. Our first turks were trained, for around a month, to return to run on own and were very good about doing so. They trained the succeeding generation, and so on. Other than reproductive hormones getting the better of their training, i.e., unauthorized nesting attempts in woods/sparring, they comply without much other human input. Training by generation ("black" poult is hen in second pic - doing more training): All marched, single file, back up from pond and tucked themselves in. I just had to shut door. Human imprinted turkeys might cause problems for some folks but we've had good luck doing so - "compliance" wise.
