A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

That is so sad when that happens.

I take the poults away as they hatch and then give them back to Mama after I know they are drinking and eating (three to four days). Those poults running around are usually enough to get her up and moving. Some hens just don't make good mothers though...

I wonder if I might try that still...the babies in the brooder just started to eat. My birds are free range then locked into the coop at night. At what point should the turkey family be taken out of the nursery pen (not as secure as I'd like) and introduced to the flock environment (mostly chickens, but with a tom too).

Ralph bad news.... Mr. T has cut his 2nd hen.... He only has this issue with the BB turkeys

. They r to hard for him to breed. He never had this happen with his heritage girls... I am getting to the point where I dont even want turkeys anymore...

Found 2 turkey eggs in the nest box today - yay! This means that Coco has started laying and she seems fine with the nest box :). Boy do I have some cleaning to do this weekend. Coops are needing some work - high winds and lots of rain sure seem to create a mess lol.

Holm - sorry to hear that Mr T is hurting hens, would hen saddles help? Don't give up on turkeys!!

Good for Coco! Glad she's using the nest! Yipee!

Holm, have fun at the Wild Turkey thing! Sounds like fun. Get saddles for your girls!

Speaking of girls. Walked around front with mine this afternoon. Mailman now stops to visit with them. Daisy walks right up to him & let's him scratch her head. He gets a kick out her. He told me it makes his day to visit with Daisy. She's such a gadfly!

:yuckyuck

I remember the orange jackets! Daisy is such a ham, she'd probably enjoy wearing one. I need to find her a pink tutu.

I am going to be some changing around here again.

Unfortunately Mr T is not going to get to come here. Between the time getting late in the year, the rules for getting my NPIP and his little problem we just do not have time for it anymore this year.

I am going to rearrange my birds. All my self blue hens in with the other blue Tom I have. I will give JJ the non-blues for my colored birds this year and the blues the others.

I looked at the other combinations I could make and they are limited.
