A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

OK, these palms and mottleds are being serious belly buttons! They are at just the right size where they're still light and agile enough that they can easily fly over the 6 foot chicken wire fencing. Seems like every time I turn around, Princess (palm) and one of the mottled babies are in the chicken coop where there's a bowl of food for the youngest chickens. Which means they figured out to go in the run, up the ramp and in to the coop. Of course, they know how to go back out the pop door and in to the run so it's harder to catch them :/ Queenie (other palm) and Cuddles (mottled) are the other two that are always out. Queenie is the one I picked up at the swap so she's NOT one to be held or want attention so she's hard as heck to catch. At least Cuddles loves to be held and will come right to me. I'm just glad they don't go far without their flock. Young belly buttons. Seriously.

I think they are cute at that age, My Blue Hens babies are at the age where they are enjoying flying. They fly everywhere they go. Last night I was afraid they were going to roost on top of the coop. Luckily Mama did not stand for that. I am dreading the day she washes her wings of them. It is coming soon, they will be uncontrollable. They have only been touched a couple times by humans so they are ready made bellybuttons.

They have taken to following JJ most of the day. My wife is afraid that means they are Toms. I think they are just following the obvious Alpha Turkey in hopes of having his status rub off on them.

I have no idea, really.

Here are some Tree Hen pictures. not great one, the WWD took them. She obviously lacks my talents.....Please tell her that too..She needs to hear it from others now and then to keep herself humble and from getting uppity. Some people just cannot handle greatness and the ability to be perfect at everything as well as I do.

The hole again....With her, you can see I put some chips in the hole to give the chicks the ramp.

This is how I finally hooked the tree to a run. I was not sure how I was going to do it.
It is not perfect but should work considering she is about 40 feet from my Mom's house.

Happy Holiday everyone!

Big Bird gave me another heart attack today. I let everyone out this morning, and came back to visit with them around lunchtime. Big Bird was standing on top of the nest boxes chirping like crazy at me (which she doesn't usually do). I looked into their area of the barn and it looked like a blood bath had happened. Darned birds! So I stepped inside and noticed that Big Bird had ripped a toenail right off. Seriously? She broke her beak a couple of weeks ago and now she's ripping off toenails....sigh  Dang, those bleed a lot. I got DH to hold her so I could clean it up, sprayed her foot down with blu kote and sat with her for a little while to keep her quiet. The bleeding seems to have subsided. Cleaned up the blood puddles and spatter (she managed to spread it far and wide). By the way....wear gloves when using blu kote or you have hands that are a lovely shade of purple :D

Ok it finally stopped raining after 3 straight days and I was able to get better shots of the mystery birds. My husbands says the people we got them from said they were rio grande. We just want to know if you all agree and if you can tell male or female yet. They are roughly 3 mths from what my husband says. Let me know if you need more pics.
