A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Aurora - glad you managed to get the delinquents out of the tree and into bed :). Mine all go in at night too - way too many predators in my yard!

Ralph - I think everyone should want to see the cool colored turkeys - is it because they have to be one of the recognized colors? So boring :p

Well, not turkey related - but one of my spring baby chicks laid their first egg! I have no idea why that is so exciting... But it is so fun to see them grow up :D. I can't wait until Dottie starts (Sicilian buttercup) - I think they lay white eggs and that will be a first in my group. The baby bullet I got today was from one of the cuckoo marans girls.

Both my turkeys are on egg-laying strike currently. Big Bird was molting, so took a break. And Coco hasn't laid one for a few days, so maybe she's thinking about molting too (as long as she's not thinking about being broody ).

All mine are cooped & locked down. I dont have near the predators. Owls, coons, possum. I couldnt sleep if they were loose.

Daisy's limp is getting better. Slowly. I've checked her leg & foot repeatedly. No visable sign of injury or swelling. Guess she must have sprained something. Tonight she ran flapping & jumping through the yard on one leg. Goofy bird!

No argument here, I agree. My situation is just different. Bobcats, fox, coyote, dogs and coons are my biggest problem. All of which dislike electricity. :)

We have bobcats and coyotes also, I just haven't seen them around the yard yet. My neighbor had a coyote in his yard and I've seen a bobcat about 10 miles from home.

Yup, we have owls and possum too. I guess I just didn't give them much thought when it comes to juvenile turkeys. The turkeys are so big that I didn't think of them as dangerous to them. Either way, I can't stand them to be out at night. I'd never sleep lol.

My DH is pretty upset with the turkeys today. They flew up onto the neighbor's roof. All the poults were up there. Luckily, the neighbors were actually excited about it, something kinda cool to see I suppose. DH wants me to clip wings, but I'm not really wanting to. There are a total of 12 poults, including Esther's Jelmaro turkey, who is about 6 months old. The others are from June hatch.

I can empathize with the predator issues. I lost several poults to coons early this spring. Owls have hit me pretty hard the last few weeks.

coyotes hit some adult hens that decided to hide a nest. I didn't find. last loss couple days ago. all hens in molt so didn't think they were laying but one hen was gone. found busted nest and feathers mowing today.

I have something else going on with my poults I have left. they have been free ranging with the adults in the pasture. having a blast chasing bugs and eating weed seeds. but over the last week 3 have died. Fine in the morning and listless and dead within a couple hours.

Anyway on a positive note I came across a young boy that was wanting some turkeys. He couldn't find any he could afford or he liked. He really liked my palms. So I gave him a year old palm tom and my year old bearded palm hen.

So I may have started a young boy in the wonderful world of turkeys.

Haven't been on much cause it's been a hectic last month and a half. never good to wish your life away but I'm ready for Nov. I need a vaction.

Good to hear from you Feedman! Its great your getting young kids hooked on turkeys! I love it when the younger folk take interest in fowl!

Aurora I expect all of your kids to be chicken/turkey farmers!!

Hey Ralph....haven't heard anything from Coffee in awhile....tell her we miss her.

Feedman - good to hear from you, but sorry to hear you've been losing poults. Love that you're converting kids into poultry people :). Hope you get some time off to relax soon.

Absolutely no turkey excitement here since my turkey wrassling the other night.

@memphis - Thought you might enjoy seeing the buttercups almost grown up. I've really been enjoying them - although everything I read says they are usually flighty. Mine have been people oriented, friendly and super curious. I absolutely love their combs, I think they are adorable. You'd probably enjoy some :D

Can't resist checking out my iPad.....

Thanks for the Sicilian update Fiesty! Those combs are so cool. I need some!!

Daisy is using her leg just fine. Whatever she did, she's over it. Yipee!

Annie is still sitting. On nothing. Before work i put a little bowl of wet feed next to her. After work she will come & hang out. I give her another bowl of wet feed. I think she's gaining weight. I have a fat broody...

Up here you would just set out a little bowl of dry food, it would be wet soon enough.
