A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

What were the parents? Did you run the calculator to limit the choices?

From what I was told, the parents for all four poults were Narragansett x Bronze, although they did have a white tom and a royal palm on the property. Three of them look like the first poult, the latter poult was the only one who had this coloring in the entire brooder when I picked them out.

Ah, thanks! We were hoping the white/lavender/blonde-ish tones it's showing would lead to an interesting variety we'd never raised before in our pasts, but we're excited regardless :)

I believe any of the heritage turkeys are quite suitable for free ranging (not broad breasted - bred to be heavy for meat). Good at flying. They come in a variety of colors, and make very nice eye-candy in your yard

Alright, thank you! In the spring would it be fairly easy to find a couple 4-5 week olds on craigslist?

Turkeys try to avoid duck people...

Maybe because they feel very self-conscious when they are around gorgeous ducks?

I tell ya what: bathing birds takes practice I've found. The Tom is probably 35 lbs? But he didn't entirely let me bathe him, I just used tubs that were just narrow enough to contain them but wide enough to submerge the whole body. And a helper is always appreciated. How warm was the water? I have found this to be a bigger factor than you think. Noone likes a cold shower.

Nathan - I didn't have any trouble finding my bourbons on craigslist. It may depend on your area, but I think you should be able to find some.

Bantambird - Did the wind let up at your place? I hope it moved on to somewhere else (not here )! I hope I never have to bathe the boys, but will recruit DH if I have to do it. I have a water trough that might work as a bathtub for them.
