How do you support it? Also, what do you use for treats?

It varies, my DW and I disagree on how to support it, I sometimes give in to her silly ideas. BTW it was her silly idea that failed.


I have posts in the middle of the run and I throw the netting over the posts. I like to use something smooth and round so the netting can move back and forth, the problem with that is wear. I also like T posts on the top of the supports. The more you spread the weight the better in my mind. I think I have some pictures that will show it.










This is basic, I have made some changes but not many.


I just use a mixture of wild bird seed, corn, oats and Boss to treat them.. oh and table scraps.

No, that stuff you are talking about is way too light to hold up under a wind or even a light snow.

I use Game bird Netting, the same stuff the pheasant farms use to keep their birds in.

I buy it from Amazon. It comes in various sizes, 50x50. 10x100. 25x25 etc. It has about 2 inch weave to it and the netting is about 1/16th to 1/8 of an inch thick.

How does it usually do with leaves and/or snow?

This is my latest project. It's roughly 54" W x 96" L x 48" H (at center). Since the last picture I've attached the door (pictured leaning against the "coop" part), and I've added the metal fencing everywhere it needs to go. So I still have to slap some paint on it (as not all of it is treated wood), than let my son do some 5 yr old graffiti with the rattle cans and add the outer part to the door (cause without it the doors kinda useless). Oh yea and I have to go buy a feeder for future occupants.

Since we're showing our setups, here's my chicken coop. I'm working on breeding pens too that will be like 4 pens under a pavilion. The green and of white shed is where the turkeys call home.

Leafs are no problem Just take a leaf blower from the inside and they are gone. Most snow is not a problem, but these wet heavy ones are.

I was thinking of nesting coops kind of like yours Chaos.

It may end up doubling as a nesting coop when not being a quarantine coop.......guess that all depends on how well I can control myself.

I was thinking I could make several of those and set them around my covered run and have nesting/brooding areas. With a back door I could steal the eggs and they would never know I did it!


I do not let them set on eggs until I am done hatching in the bator.

You could definitely build it smaller and cheaper than I did. Even though I tried going as cheap as possible without jeopardizing animal health and safety.
