A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I've been trying to get a picture of Annie molting. I need help. Everytime I point the camera at her she gives me the middle toe. Problem my helpers don't get home till after dark.

And Annie definitely has a car fetish. I let them stroll down the drive way to eat clover in the front yard. She has to circle my van multiple times pecking at various things. Today she noticed a car across the street. She made a break for it. I herder back to the yard and sure enough she noticed the neighbors car in their driveway. Off she went. Last thing I need is her hopping on someone's car. She hasn't tried that YET. She likes to circle the vehicle staring at it. Daisy could care less. Annie is definitely the more curious of the two. Daisy is usually only concerned with where I am.

LOL! I'm trying to picture Annie racing off after vehicles, leaving a trail of feathers falling behind her as she runs :)

I've heard that extra protein helps with molting, but no first-hand experience with it.

Bannturkmom, mine think they are "entitled "! For some reason they think they should be allowed to do anything they want. Which does include coming in the house. They've even requested the keys to the car. Just had to draw the line! No, they can't come in the house & no, they can't use the car! :)

Fiesty, how does one accidentally aquire two chickens on the way home from work? Love it!! What breed?

Ralphie. ..have we lost you to Taylor? Are you still south of the Mason Dixon?

Chaos...well, have you aquire your new hens yet?

MM...how is your flock? Have you had "Dinner" yet?

Fiesty. ..how is Turkules? Is he still limping?

R2elk/Feedman. ..do you guys feed your birds differently when they are molting?

Inquiring minds want to know.....

I don't but that doesn't mean that it isn't beneficial to do so.

Thanks R2elk. I haven't been doing anything extra for their molt. They do get BOSS as treats and free range during the day. They have their feed with free choice calcium, if so inclined. Guess I'm used to all the chicken folks boosting protein when their birds are molting. Just wondering if any of the turkey folks did it too.

I think it was a textbook "chicken math" story lol. Started by losing Lola to a prolapse, then discovering I have a rooster and start thinking that I might want to add a hen or two one of these days to keep him entertained. Then I see on the Washington thread that the Humane Society has a couple of hens looking for a home, and googling find out that it's the Humane Society in MY county where they are. I stopped by just to "look" since they couldn't tell me anything useful over the phone. Discovered that one of them is a breed that I've been coveting. They seem to have sweet dispositions and, of course, they NEED a home. They had to be taken as a pair, so.....voila.....two chickens are now in a covered tractor behind my barn :) One is a gold laced wyandotte and the other is unknown and I think a bantam by the size.

Turkules is still limping, but has nothing tall to jump off right now - so hoping that he heals up over the next few days. Will let him out to range a bit this weekend and see how he's doing.
