Ginger had his first indoctrination into becoming a lapper today.

It went fairly well. I had to catch him (twice) in a landing net. He escaped the first time.

When I held him he looked scared but did not fight me. I petted him and he tolerated it. I then sat him on the end gate of my Pickup, he did not fight to leave me, I petted him and rubbed his back, I touched his head and wings. He did flinch a tad when I reached for his head.

The whole ordeal was maybe 5 minutes as I did not want to stress him. I think he would make a great lapper in hardly anytime at all.


It is going to be so hard to take his head. I think I would have more trouble taking his head than I would Penguins.



Why is it I have 3 Toms from last years hatch with names and only one hen has a name? Something is not right here.

Maybe Coffee will take Ginger. . I bet if she takes him only, maybe a week before the hens arrive, he would really bond with her. Both Aurora & I spent about a week with just the one bird & they quickly turned into snuggly lappers.

If she did that I bet Ginger would be a super lapper, He is so naturally curious and wants to be with people.. A few weeks before the hens and she would have him sleeping on her headboard!

I just love that Coffee is joining us on the dark (meat) side....turkeys are such fun pets. She's going to really enjoy them.

I have 8 self blue hens, they are the only ones I dare get rid of...

The babies would be 100% rusty lavenders. But if she wants variety I could always trade them to her something else.

You really shouldn't be socializing Ginger. As I recall Porter already recommended that Ginger not be used for breeding purposes because of the small eye defect. A responsible breeder would make sure that Ginger is not put in a situation where he would be used as a breeder. The only sure way to do that, that I know of is to introduce him to freezer camp.

I just went and looked, all the young would have DD so the eye problem would most likely be there, They would all have to be eaten.

Maybe you could get him "caponized" and sell him as a pet only. "caponized" = testicles removed.
