Hello, I am so disappointed there is nowhere to turn for help with chickens or my quail. As in a vet, people just say nope we don't see birds and say goodluck. I have a 4 month old sweet baby easter egger/ orphington pullet. She has wry neck, and swelling around her left ear area up to her eye. She can't walk now the wry neck is so bad, one of her feet twitch at times. I have been helping her eat by holding her neck. I give her water, vitamins, electrolytes from a syringe. She wants to eat and drink she has an amazing appetite. I don't know what else to do for her, I need any advice. I have given her amoxocillin, prednisone, vitmi. E and selenium, switched to amoxicillin clavenate, molxicam, motrin, polyvi sol, she is getting great food, tuna, salmon, eggs, grains, etc. Does anyone have any ideas so I can help her she wants to live so badly she softly chirps everytime I talk or walk in. Also I have no other birds sick or anything like what she has. We have been doing this for almost a month. Her stool is also normal.

Hey sorry about your chicken. How is she doing this evening?

That lump could be a number of things and it could be what’s leading to the wry neck but they could just be different conditions just coincidentally happening at the same time. I’m going to tag some more experienced educators for help, but let’s start with some questions.
@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @azygous

First, how long have you been giving vitamins and what doses? You said vitamins E and selenium, what form? Human vitamins, or?

What did you notice first, the wry neck or the swelling?

What dose and how long has she been on an antibiotic?

Have you checked the ear canal for pus or debris? You may need to get in there and irrigate.

How about her eye on the side where there is swelling, is there anything in it?

Is this a cut?

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry to hear your pullet is not well.

To me, it looks like she has an ear infection along with bruising.
How long has this been going on?

I'd continue with the vitamins giving 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4tablet B-Complex daily. Give her a bit of egg to help with the uptake of E. Cut out the Selenium (egg is for that).

I'd make sure she's eating an 18-22% Protein Chick Starter. If she's willing to eat, then try Torpedo Feeding (link below). If not, then you can make a slurry of her feed or get some Kaytee Exact Baby Bird formula and tube feed her.

Apply 1 (one) drop of Peroxide in the ear, then see if you can work any pus out of the ear. Repeat with 1 drop at a time to clean. Once cleaned, put triple antibiotic ointment in the ear. (Do this with both ears if they are crusty).

Have you ever had respiratory illness or canker within your flocks?

Does she have any bad odors?

Hello, thank you soon much for replying and helping me to help her.
She got slight wry neck first, I went out that morning and seen her. I did see one hen run her around and before I got to her she did run into the house, that was July 14th. I started vitamin e and selenium gel for goats from tractor supply the next day. I gave her 2 dime size doses daily. She has had wry neck since July 14th. I also had started a vitamin b complex liquid for humans for her. I noticed the swelling the first week. The 2nd week i got worried she had a infection so I started human amoxicillin. I only had 500 mg capsules and was giving her 250 mg once a day. For 7 days. That didn't seem to help so I found amoxicillin/clavenate and was giving her half a tablet. 250 mg once a day it has been 6 days of that.
I also have been giving her prednisone 2mg once a day for 4 days
Also childrens motrin for inflammation
Along with all vitamins. I also am giving her 20 percent protein food ( grains) made by my local mill. Im mixing quail scrambled or boiled eggs. I will add tuna, kale, spinach, veggies, fruits, for her.
The scratch on her face is from her claws, sometimes her feet get a little crazy before I can get her wrapped in her towel. She has not been standing lately, because of wry neck i feel. I think the bruising is from all the swelling. I can't see in the ear canal on that side very well because of the swelling. The other side looks clear.
I have never had any respiratory or canker illnesses here. She doesn't have any bad odors. There is no crusty stuff around her ears. She has such a happy attitude and wants to eat and drink, chrip.
I will do the peroxide treatment in her ears. Also I will start the torpedo feeding for her. That may be easier for her. She is still pecking her food while I hold her head straight. Thank you all so so much

I’m glad to hear she has some vigor to her. I hope you are able to remove some pus from her ear and relieve that swelling a bit if that is the issue. Sometimes even with an antibiotic if there is pus, the swelling/infection won’t resolve until the pus is removed.

It may be that the wry neck won’t resolve until the cause of the swelling does, but I’d keep at it with the vitamins as suggested by @Wyorp Rock

Keep us updated on her. I hope she does okay.
