Hello, I am so disappointed there is nowhere to turn for help with chickens or my quail. As in a vet, people just say nope we don't see birds and say goodluck. I have a 4 month old sweet baby easter egger/ orphington pullet. She has wry neck, and swelling around her left ear area up to her eye. She can't walk now the wry neck is so bad, one of her feet twitch at times. I have been helping her eat by holding her neck. I give her water, vitamins, electrolytes from a syringe. She wants to eat and drink she has an amazing appetite. I don't know what else to do for her, I need any advice. I have given her amoxocillin, prednisone, vitmi. E and selenium, switched to amoxicillin clavenate, molxicam, motrin, polyvi sol, she is getting great food, tuna, salmon, eggs, grains, etc. Does anyone have any ideas so I can help her she wants to live so badly she softly chirps everytime I talk or walk in. Also I have no other birds sick or anything like what she has. We have been doing this for almost a month. Her stool is also normal.

Hey sorry about your chicken. How is she doing this evening?

That lump could be a number of things and it could be what’s leading to the wry neck but they could just be different conditions just coincidentally happening at the same time. I’m going to tag some more experienced educators for help, but let’s start with some questions.
@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @azygous

First, how long have you been giving vitamins and what doses? You said vitamins E and selenium, what form? Human vitamins, or?

What did you notice first, the wry neck or the swelling?

What dose and how long has she been on an antibiotic?

Have you checked the ear canal for pus or debris? You may need to get in there and irrigate.

How about her eye on the side where there is swelling, is there anything in it?

Is this a cut?

Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry to hear your pullet is not well.

To me, it looks like she has an ear infection along with bruising.
How long has this been going on?

I'd continue with the vitamins giving 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4tablet B-Complex daily. Give her a bit of egg to help with the uptake of E. Cut out the Selenium (egg is for that).

I'd make sure she's eating an 18-22% Protein Chick Starter. If she's willing to eat, then try Torpedo Feeding (link below). If not, then you can make a slurry of her feed or get some Kaytee Exact Baby Bird formula and tube feed her.

Apply 1 (one) drop of Peroxide in the ear, then see if you can work any pus out of the ear. Repeat with 1 drop at a time to clean. Once cleaned, put triple antibiotic ointment in the ear. (Do this with both ears if they are crusty).

Have you ever had respiratory illness or canker within your flocks?

Does she have any bad odors?
