A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Swollen snoods occur during the game called "Snood pulling contests". It is a common disorder caused by excessive snood pulling contests. When I saw the first one I was in shock a turkey of mine could do that.  I soon come to realize all turkeys do it.  Sometimes they pull the other turkey's snood for 5 minutes or more.

I think your turkey is playing you for more indoor loving time. They are devious and will do that stuff.

Lol mine had a swollen snood once. His brothers gang beat him and were falapping at him, kicking him, pecking his face and of course pulling on his snood... It wasnt pretty. I tried to stop them but I got "winged" in the face a time or two. I butchered them that day.... They were going to be bitcher a week later anyways so I did it sooner....

Oh My, Holm!

I bet if you saw Santa's reindeer playing "reindeer games" you would have venison the next day!

I prefer Bambi! Lol

So....Holm is home schooled. Makes sense now, wasn't sure why he was on BYC during school hours. Thought he was messing around when he shouldn't! But then again....Holm wouldn't do that!!

I'm agreeing with R2elk. We do AI with our dogs all the time. Its sort of standard practice when the two dogs live too far apart for a live mating. Holm, AI'ing turkeys is quite the resume builder. Seriously Holm, think about it. It could be a side business. You could invest in several interesting toms. Then go around inseminating folks hens so they don't have to deal with too many toms. I can just see that business card!!

Lol I always joke about inseminators.... It sounds like a not fun job... But some vets have to do it and I want to be a vet so this could be good practice!! But I dont have te stuff....

Way off topic here, but I thought the AKC did not allow Artificial insemination.

Here is a nice article on AI for chickens and turkeys.

As far as I can tell the only instruments that are specifically needed are the insemination tubes which Stromberg's sell for $4.50 per 100.
