A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I am down to 17 right now. Hopefully I will drop a few more toms, before going back up. I like holding and talking to JJ and Ethel. I doubt that will ever stop. If I did not like "touching" or "talking" to animals, I would not have them. They are more than just food or property to me. I even love the bellybuttons, some.

Last night when I got back from Grandpa Daycare last night, I went to lock the Toms I, and none of them were in the pen. Big surprise! (not really). They were all over sitting on the Breeding coops and pens of King George and Bert Jr. I did not want to leave them out after losing the rooster to the owl.

I wanted JJ to be in first into safety. I picked him up, and carried him to the turkey house. He just sat and cooed and purred while I carried him and pet his head. Next was Porter, that was a mistake, I thought he was Sidekick. but he fought and kicked the whole way. It was beneath him to be carried.

Then I grabbed a blue and he complained and fought, one wing got free and he was hitting so hard with it, I thought he would break his wing so I had to let him down.

Sidekick came next. He talked all the way to the turkeyhouse, but he did not fight being carried. The last ones complained a tad but I got them in.

The only one left was the one that I had to put down. I chased him around the buildings into and out of the lean too, He refused to let me pick him up. Then he just turned and ran to the turkey pen and put himself in it! He knew where he was suppose to be, he was just showing he is a bellybutton!

JJ may be doing that on purpose. He wants to be a lapper. He's figured out if he roosts somewhere handy you'll pick him up & give him attention. Ralph, he's play'n ya!

Would love to see more pictures! They are pretty. Are they the only two you have? We have a good time figuring the genetics behind the different varieties.

Here are some more

Got a pic of Mr. T last night. Its not good but I was dumb and waited till it got dark for pics

R2elk...hard to tell much about them in this pic. So you'll need to do what we do with the dogs. Set each one one a table and using a treat...get them to stand correctly. Pose them, like show dogs  ( couldn't resist!) I like the one in the middle. They are all beautiful. The hens look nice too!

The one in the middle is the dominant one. As far as using treats to get them to pose, that isn't going to happen. The closest I come to giving them treats is when I strip Russian Olives off of the branches that they can't reach. The olives don't last long once they hit the ground. They refused to display this morning but they were gobbling non stop.
