Turkeys are a blast. So much more personality than chickens.

From what I see of yout hen looks like more of a narragansett than a bronze.

My first turkeys. Was given 3 year old Bourbourn red Tom. Found him a "girlfriend" (arranged marriage) Bronze 1 year old hen. Have chickens and have always wanted turkeys. This is an experience. He actually "puffed" out this morning at feeding time for me the first time!

Congratulations. Your "Bronze" hen is not a Bronze. She appears to be a Narragansett.

I have palms and bourbons. I like them both. But most turkeys are the same except for color.

Pick one that you like the best.

Palms to me are eye candy.

Welcome to BYC and this thread.

You will learn to love your turkeys.

Why did the people you got your Tom from give him up? A Tom that was given to you does not know you. He might challenge you. You need to be careful and make sure you "rule" him. Do not be mean to him, but make sure you walk through him.. Do not turn from him. Never give him your back. A new Tom and this time of year could be dangerous if not properly put in his place.

There are other things you can do put these are the first things that need to be done.

He will "puff up" and strut his stuff a lot from now on. Especially in the spring with a girl to show off for.

Did the tom make unwanted advances? I had a hen that would do that when other hen got mated. Or a tom was rough with her. Beautiful slates by the way.

This warmer weather has me way behind. I am going to have to do some major changes here.

One Tom is going to visit the smoker real soon. Maybe 2.

Porter needs to be locked in a small cage away from the other birds. Him and I are not seeing eye to eye lately. He wants to be friendly, but he also wants to act like a belly button. I Think I am going to make him a jail cell for a while. I would hate to let Coffee take him if he is not on his best behavior. She has had enough [roblems with little chicks and does not need a misbehaving Tom.

He is not going into the breeding rotation. I might be getting ahold of some Narggy/Blue eggs! I just need to find some royal palms.

I am thinking of letting Ethel and JJ get together soon. Maybe the end of the week.

R2elk how long after JJ visits Ethel before the eggs will be good? Is that a right away thing or does it take a few days?

No known unwanted advances. I have a hen that normally displays when another hen is getting bred but this wasn't her. This is the first she has been known to display. There were others displaying also but I just couldn't get shots of them. I suspect it may have had something to do with the heavy frost and 18°F weather that happened after a week of 40° - 60°F temps without any freezing nights.
