A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Good luck with that. Mine have discovered they can fly over the netting and out the fence.

Mine are in a covered pen, NOW completely enclosed...I hope.

I caught Ethel Jr sneaking off to, I assume, lay an egg.. I then saw JJ giving his DNA to Ethel Jr. Sidekick was not happy about this, but one little beating from JJ and Sidekick backed down.

I am going to be moving Ethel Jr back into a pen tomorrow. I was wondering how long after she beat the crap out of me for taking her off "her" eggs it would be until she started laying again.

I have not seen the other hen showing any signs of egg laying or breeding yet.

R2elk should I leave her out a few more days or do you think she could go into a pen again?

I need to redesign my pens too, I had them designed so each hen could see the others, which worked fine until I had babies. Now the mother wants to fight through the screens.

Ralph. ..if she's trying to sneak off I would pen her. Would hate for her to disappear. Did you ever figure out how many Ethel has? How many hens do you have raising poults?

I keep forgetting about Sidekick. Poor guy.....

You witnessed the breeding so she should be ready to go back in any time. I have the two that shared the failed nest. I let the young one out with the tom in the mornings and she lets herself back in after she is done with him.

It is best to have the pens so that the turkeys cannot see through the fence. It puts a stop to toms trying to fight through the fence and just keeps everything more harmonious.

Good luck.

So I received my first Bourbon Red turkey chicks a couple weeks ago. Lost one after two days, but I do have 3 healthy chicks running around. They are about two weeks old now. They have been jumping up on the waterer for about a week now and the pine shavings are always getting wet. I guess they are spilling it out of the waterer? Anyone else have this problem?

That is what I have, the plastic dish that you screw a mason jar into. I guess I will have to figure something else out to get them water. They sure are making a mess out of things.

Now that they are bigger, set the waterer on something like a piece of 2"x4" so that it is above the bedding. They should still be able to easily reach the water.
