A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

For those wondering, my Blue hen did not like her bath.

I am in pain.

From what I was told, the parents for all four poults were Narragansett x Bronze, although they did have a white tom and a royal palm on the property. Three of them look like the first poult, the latter poult was the only one who had this coloring in the entire brooder when I picked them out.

I was able to take a moment to upload a few pics from earlier! Question about the latter poult, what would you call this color pattern? (I'll try and get more of the other two Narragansett crosses, they weren't featuring a photo shoot and only wanted to be associated with us if we had blueberries for them. Brats. .

If the father is a Narragansett and the mother is a Bronze, the poults will be sex-linked meaning that all Bronze poults will be toms and all Narragansett poults will be hens. Of course this only works if the parents were not harboring any hidden recessive color genes.

The poult in the first image looks like it could be a Bronze. The last poult is definitely not a Bronze.

If the father was the White tom and the mother was the Bronze hen, all of the poults would be Bronze Semi-Color.

If the father was the Royal Palm and the mother the Bronze hen, the male poults would be Bronze Semi-Color Semi-Gray and the females would be Narragansett Semi-Color Semi-Gray.

Good luck.

Nathan - I didn't have any trouble finding my bourbons on craigslist. It may depend on your area, but I think you should be able to find some.

Bantambird - Did the wind let up at your place? I hope it moved on to somewhere else (not here )! I hope I never have to bathe the boys, but will recruit DH if I have to do it. I have a water trough that might work as a bathtub for them.

Nathan is in Minnesota

The wind finally stopped for now. Montana is a very windy place. I'm just glad I don't live near or in Livingston, as it gets so windy there that they shut down through traffic sometimes for semi trucks, because they blow right off the interstate there.
I put an ad in Craigslist earlier this year and I was so inundated with requests that I had to pull the ad. There aren't many people posting interesting chickens or turkeys here.

Are there any good turkey breeders in the Stevens/Pope county area you know of?

Only good breeder of turkeys I know of is me,,,,

I actually do not know of any other hatcheries that hatch heritage breeds in the area. The one I got my "original" slates from has went out of business.

I will have slates, royal palms, Blacks and bronze this next spring for APA birds, I will also have some of my colored mutts for sale.

Whatever you do, do not buy them from Runnings or TSC, they will be BB's.

If you want them for show, I will give you 9-3 or statement of origin.

Whatever you do Good luck. I think you will enjoy them. they have such personalities. While similar no two turkeys have the same one. They bring me hours of enjoyment watching their antics and peoples reactions to them.

They are more like feathered dogs than chickens, ducks or geese.

Okay. Where do you live? I've seen some of your colored mutts and really liked them. Runnings doesn't have any heritage breeds? Thank you!

I actually don't like dogs that much.

But I'm sure I'll love turkeys!

They only have BBB and BBW.

I don't know of any of the "big box" or "farm" stores that sell heritage breeds. Most of the hatcheries do not have them either.

Nathan....are you interested in showing turkeys? Are you going to the show this weekend Ralphie is going too??
