Well, sad morning here

. Coco seemed fine last night and was dead this morning when I went to let them out. Her prolapse seemed to be healing, but I'm guessing there was something more going on inside. Dang.

I am sorry to hear this, I feel bad.

You gave her the best life possible for the short time she had.

Hey guys I have a question.

My oldest Turkey hen hasnt started laying eggs and we have had her for about three months now she is well acclimated into the flock, plenty of food, water and lights are on at 6am-11:30pm for those extra cold nights we are putting a red lamp in the coop over night. I am unsure of her age but she fusses at my jakes when they go near her or bump her out of the way when they want to stare out the window. I have nesting plots in the coop via old tires and lots and lots of hay, only eggs I am getting are from my two chicken hens.
Is it to late in the season to see turkey eggs or could she be to old?

When we got her she did have a few bad wounds on her legs they are doctored up and got her to stop picking at, which are now all healed up and looking great the scales are even growing back over. We let them free range for a few hours daily while we prepare their outdoor run this summer we got pushed back on when my fiance got hurt from our a-frame falling on his hand and he ended up with 16 stitches from the sheet metal gashing through the flesh and muscle.

Any ideas why she is withholding eggs?

Turkeys are seasonal layers. Most lay spring to fall - so I think most of us are in the same boat as you... they free-load over the winter :)

The whole weekend looks bad here... I wish I had 45 for another day or two.

I am never ready for the cold.

The cold and wind is so bad my waterers are hardly staying open. I have a little spot on the leeward side of the founts that has open water.

It actually got up to 50°F yesterday. Today it is currently 10°F and slowly dropping. It doesn't look like a blizzard out but we are up to 2.5" of a very fine snow that is still slowly coming down.

My bucket of water buried in chicken droppings had no ice on it this morning.

PM sent about your 1202.

Being in WV there should not be any reason to add heat to your coop. It prevents the birds from properly preparing for the winter temperatures. My turkeys have already spent the night out in -27°F and are doing fine.

As @feistychick pointed out turkeys are seasonal layers. The older a hen gets, the later in the spring that she starts laying and the shorter period of time she will lay. My 8 year old hen didn't start laying until mid April and was done laying by July. In her younger years she would start laying in the middle of March and since then she has started later each year.

Good luck.

People that have turkeys laying eggs now have done something to their systems! It is not normal!!

I have too many Free loaders of too many species. Next week it warms some. I will be trimming the numbers of freeloaders. I am tired of them. The Number of Toms I have is going to decrease too.

(good intentions today, we will se if it happens)

I got the PM R2elk. Thanks it helped a lot.
