A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Finnie, I meant to say Annie! Flora is one of my dogs. Geez, I'm so frustrated I can't get anyones name right! They are in the coop. Hoping thdir sleeping. Daisy pretty much bullied Annie the rest of the day. Annie wouldn't get within 5 feet of her and she took advantage of it. They both have little facial cuts & waddle bruising but nothing looked too serious.

Ralphie...post a Bert Jr.pic...the one where he is almost as big as that 5 gallon feeder. Micah needs to see a toad. Molpet, I wanna see a lizzard!

Got first turkey eggs of the year. And 2 of them at that. So my turkey drought is over.

Mopet and Memphis you are both right on the Lizards.

When I got my first cross it was Cx to CX..that became a frog. (that was the cross some people went nuts on my calling CX's... Even though both parents are CX's they do not breed true, they have some falling off the fast growing trait. They are still a delicate birds.

Then I crossed that to the Rainbows, I use to call that toad, BUT it is not the finish cross, ( I know this is a pain to understand and I changed and intermixed names too much the first couple years. I then changed this phase to Lizards.

I crossed these back to a Frog. The degraded CX. This is my finished product and It seems that little bit of monkeying around has stabilized the breed. Only time will tell for sure. Because I like the name TOAD. These became the toads.

The Bert in the picture by the LP tanks is the reigning Bert. Bert is a title as much as a name. Bert is king of the meat birds. I already have the next Bert picked out. I had thought this Bert would have died by now, but he is one tough bird. He is just a pet I do not breed with him or anything. I am breeding his Sister Wife Bertha to their offspring the future Bert.

Did that confuse everyone? If my math is right they are either 7/8 or 3/4 CX the rest being rainbow, It is amazing what that little bit did to them.

The first Bert did not even live a year. (frog)
This Bert's Dad lived almost 2 years (toad renamed posthumously to Lizard)

and now the Current Bert ( a true toad) will be 3 in June.

Bert! Boy he's a hunk o'bird!! Thats the shot I was thinking about. Thanks Ralph!

Yipee Feedman!! Now go hatch me a narri hen!!

Wow Ralph - that is an impressive chicken!

Feedman - woo hoo, eggs!!!!! I see incubators warming in your future :)

Aurora - adorable baby.

Memphis - Sorry to hear that the girls are being temperamental :(. Spring seems to do that to my turkeys as well - the chickens don't seem to even notice the season change  Big Bird is hormonal right now too, but she's not taking it out on anyone so far. The boys only fight if I separate them and then bring them back together - if they stay together they behave fine.

First day of sunshine here in eons, made sure that everyone got out to run for awhile - happy, happy birds! They haven't wanted anything to do with outside in the heavy downpours that we've been having lately.

What do you think of my temperature modulator r2elk? My dad hardwired it into my old 1202, and at first the main power supply was connected in, but with some peanut butter cookies, homemade baked macaroni with crunchy top, and a Guinness, dad hardwired a separate line for the fan and egg Turner from the heating element. Now the whole thing takes two plug ins!

Yeah, if you let the temp controller handle all the power, it really messes up the fan and turner. I use the Spyder but even the cheap ones like Ralphie used do so much better than the wafers and the electronic one that GQF sells.

I wired my fan and turner power through a switch so that I don't have to pull the plug to shut it off.

I used one of the really cheap ones (+/- 1° with a 2° temperature swing) as a controller for one of the GQF brooder heaters. It does really great for the brooder.

My little giant Styrofoam jobber went democrat on me and jumped the temp to 120 degrees.... Freekin tree huggers and foam warming... I don't know if any of the eggs survived yet. First thing this morning I'm wiring a wafer switch into the power supply to the runaway heater. As a matter of fact I'm doing away with the little fed controlled digital brain that lies about the true temperature altogether!!!;
