Time for Rat education.... I have one. He/She lives in my wood stove in the barn. It appears to be singular in nature--but you know the old adage, for everyone you see there are ten you don't. I want to setup my brooder in there, so obviously the critter has to go. I've tried burning him out, poisoning him, trapping him, etc. No avail. My best option is sneaking up on him. When I open the door to the stove he will stare at me for a couple of moments before he darts. What kind of pellet / dart weapon would you suggest? He's driving me nuts.

.22 air pistol. The .177/BB are just too light weight unless you get a direct brain shot. You will only get one chance at this so make it good. If you know its exit hole, you could try a snare.

is it true that air (aka co2) and pump provide same power? He's too smart for a snare. It appears he can exit on all four sides of the stove. He goes down to where the spent ashes go, how I don't know, but he does. And apparently from there he can exit anywhere he likes.

No, CO2 will work at a set pressure and only at that pressure. A pump action air rifle/pistol can work at different pressures depending on how many times you pump it up.

Ten pumps will easily pass completely through a rat. It might only take 6 pumps at close range.

Depends how good of a shot you are, how much you pump it up and how close you are. Short answer is yes. The other thing is that the lead pellets have much more shock power than a BB does. BBs will pass right through and leave the victim to suffer before finally dying.

This is what I have and I use it to shoot starlings and pigeons at approximately 100 to 130 feet from the comfort of my living room. It would also kill a squirrel at that range. You do need to be aware of your background since the specs say the pellet can travel 1/2 mile.

It's been a few years since I hatched pure narris. If I remember the toms were slightly greyat hatch.But I can't remember. Find out if they hatch.

Was back out with birds. My bearded bourbon was chatty Cathay all day. In and out of doghouse 25 times. She graced me with an egg. So I have a bourbon laying.

The really serious problem with air guns is that they are not considered firearms and any location can pass any laws against their ownership or use no matter how ridiculous the law is. A very high percentage of municipalities ban the use of air guns in town limits. This mostly happens because of the amount of vandalism that is done with BB guns.

Yipee...Annie used the new nest box! She stared at it suspiciously, complained loudly, then started checking out bushes. I plopped her in it, she stayed & layed! And I got the tail turning radius correct.

Feedman, my Bourbon became very chatty since she's laying. She's a talker! She's also my guard turkey. If you come into my yard & she doesn't know you, i hear about it in the house. And Daisy is very quiet. Lots of little trills & chirps. But when Annie gets going its amazing the sounds that come out of that hens beak!
