A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

So they'd let you keep selling even though other birds in your flock tested positive? That makes no sense.

The turkeys will no longer be in the flock.... They will be 'gone".

The chickens do not matter to the USDA or the state.

So they don't care, as long as it isn't turkeys? Odd... But nice, since that means a positive wouldn't be total devastation.

I was in a voluntary testing program for the chickens. Only 3 breeders in the state were in it. They simply removed me from the program and said "There you have no positive birds".....

HUH???????

so it's ok to have chickens w/it and you have to axe the turkeys with it... weird .. not sure how that helps control it.:he

I believe in the whole disinfection, being clean, stopping the spread of diseases...but when this type of stuff occurs...like, what is going on?? I've worked in a high health facility (hogs) and none of this makes any sense. When we keep talking about depopulating flocks for things like this...and mycoplasma etc is supposed to be prevalent across the country...I think this type of thinking is flawed.

Precious lines of key genetics are being lost for what??? To save some large corporation? This isn't working and tell me if I'm wrong...but birds can live full lives and still be fine in every respect, can't they? Just think if...during the plagues we had of yesteryear...we indiscriminately culled the majority of the people population? Most of us wouldn't be here.

I feel that depopulating any birds that contract it is just eliminating the chance that they may develope resistance to it. In the long run, it makes no sense. Especially when it's so common.
Bingo. That's what I'm doing. Sick birds get killed, ones that don't get symptoms are bred.
