A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have a wild hive in a hollow oak right behind the house. If I get too close with the tractor they will start head butting me. The head butt is a warning to back off. The aggression zone isn't very big.
Are you sure it's a warning? My experience is if you happen to be in the direct flight path, especially the return path, they will slam right into you since they do not deviate from their path.

Hi, first time turkey owner. Just got 16 of em on Thursday, they're BB whites. A couple of the poults look like they have angel wing but I researched and apparently it's because they can't support the weight of their wing, is that correct?

Does anyone know what the little pimple above their beak is?

I'm going to try my hand at A.I. and if that fails i'll get a heritage tom.

"Angel wing" is relatively common among some varieties of turkeys. They will grow out of it. At least one person made the observation that all of the poults that they noticed with this condition turned out to be toms. I believe that is also the case of any that I have had.

Everyone familiar with turkeys knows about the snood.

Yep I was thinking the dot is going to be the snood but I didn't know jenny's had snoods too.

I'll keep an eye out for the ones with the strange wings to see if they're toms.

Thanks

Welcome Finishsr. Good luck with the babies.

Flashpoint...we call them lightningbugs too. My uncle lives outside of Gettysburg. It's pretty there.

R2elk...figured you had bees this year. Several years ago on one of my trips up to Missouri a semi loaded with boxes/hives overturned. They actually closed the expressway and diverted all traffic to service roads. Seems they (are there bee farmers?) winter bees down here & relocate them north in the spring.
