A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I have a hen who had a lovely beard....until her roommate chewed it off.

Ralph, do you think someone may have taken all the birds at once, or over time? I'm having a hard time digesting a theft like this. Just rotten! What would they do with them? Dell them? I'd be checking Craigslist or maybe local dales/swaps. Are you filing a police report. I think I would. Just to go on record. On the off chance you find a culprit. I worry about predators. But a two legged one never occurred to me. But they steal dogs....

So....my bird is a turd! Currently our heat index is over 105 with high humidity. I can't sit out here without a fan. Notice the picture...me in my chair, bird on the arm, then the fan. She's pretty much blocking my wind flow and thourouly enjoying it! She's not stupid...I may be tho....

I had a panic attack earlier. I looked in the brooder and saw one of my penciled palm poults stuck on it's back. I helped it up of course but it took a couple steps and was stumbling all over the place. I was ready to cry! Then I picked it up to look a bit closer...It somehow managed to get a strand of my hair wrapped around it's toes on the one foot and couldn't balance lol. I got it off and now he's just fine. But I haven't lost any poults in a few days now and I REALLY didn't want to lose that one.

I am going to be changing my Cameras to positions that watch for humans and not animals also....

What I would like to do, might get me detention for even saying it..SO I in my normal perfect behavior fashion will not say it at all.......

BTW how high do you set a snare for a person again?

Any chance your Mom went out and let them out and doesn't remember doing it?
Then again, if she had, you would probably have at least some (if not almost all) of the missing turkeys hanging around where you would see them, so.... never mind.

My bronze turkey's head is turning blue. Is that an age progression or is it/will it only be blue at certain times? Like currently we have temps in the high 90's (before you add the heat index). I am assuming it is an age progression and it will stay that way, but since I don't know that much about turkeys, I figured I would ask the experts ( that's you guys :D )

Aurora, glad your point is ok.

Hey...Feisty & R2elk...did you two abandon us??

Definitely still here, and keeping up with the news :). We finally got summer here - not nearly as hot as elsewhere in the country, but nice. The birds are loving the drier weather and my garden is finally starting to take off (apparently sunshine is required for growing lol).

Some pictures of Big Bird - just because she loves to sit near me when I'm gardening and get head rubs . Ack, it's much more difficult to post pictures now.

Age progression... but also closely linked with their hormones and health, along with the color of their snood and caruncles... it will for the most part be blue, but illness, injury and even depression can cause the head, snood and caruncles to turn pale... mating and aggressive feelings will cause them to flush their brightest... make note of how the coloration is normally once he matures, and keeping an eye out for changes, especially paleness, can be a good warning sign something is amiss...
