A while back I posed the question... "What will my chicks turn out to be?" This was after one of my Isabelle Leghorn hens found her way to my Silver Spangled Hamburg Roo. Imagine the dark blue striping with the lavender base feathers... That's what I got. Will try to get pix tomorrow--but they are camera shy.

Ever since the coyote attack, everyone goes into a shelter at night except for the adult turkeys. That said, the boys have a new routine... the smallest guy, runs into the girls shelter as soon as we show up. The other three head for the hills. Once everyone we can catch is in a shelter for the night we call it good. Always, three of the boys are not going into shelter... Last night my Silver Spangled Hamburg roo was 60' up in a tree. He just yelled at us as we told him it was his job to survive the night. Every morning the three boys fly over the fence and go inspect each shelter and chat with the birds in them. Then they fly back to be there when the girls are let out. We try to keep them in until 9:00 as they've laid their eggs by then. Yesterday, we had to do the birds early because we had another conflict later. It was funny, the boys were in the lower pasture and when they saw us go into the upper pasture to take care of everyone, they flew all the way into the upper pasture and were ready when the girls came out.

Hey all,

Today is another red letter day on the farm. Turkey's are doing great... I'm now putting up 14 quarts of marinara sauce all ingredients except salt, sugar and pepper raised on the farm. It's taken more than a year to get here but I'm excited.

Hi Everyone

A message from @JRNash. He said to tell everyone that each of you are in his thoughts constantly. I told him how folks were asking about him and hoping he would return. I hope he does, too.

That said, he's had his hands full. His dad passed away and he's had to take care of things and his family. He is also going back to work in a few days with long hours if I understand correctly. I am hoping once things settle down, he won't be able to help himself and will be missing everyone too much to stay away forever.

AND DRAT! I forgot to tell him tonight that my big tom Tommie Tucker FINALLY displayed and gobbled today!! He's only 3 months behind the other tom Ironsides!

Sooooooo - I'm thinking a slow learner....
