Oldie but a goodie!

Visitors are always cause for conversation amongst the turkeys. Daisy charms them with her sweetness while Annie steals their jewelry.
Chimera = Broody Turkey Hen

Haha, good to know!

Seriously though, she has not demonstrated any type of male behavior. When her day comes, I will make an effort to check her sex organs but there is more wrong than having one side being able to turn red without it happening to both sides. There is definitely something wrong with her eye as right from a very young age the lid has never opened fully.

Hey all , just a couple of questions from a newbie. Loving having turkeys, they are just so amazing.

I am noticing when someone new comes onto the property, there is quite the conversation (from the turkeys) along with curiosity. I really noticed it when my 8year old nephew was here, (we don't have kids yet, so they are not used to small people!). But yesterday our new neighbors stopped by and it was still a cacophony of turkey chatter. Is this curiosity? Nosiness? Territorial?

Also, what purpose does a beard serve? Is it a mating display?

My poults are about 3-4 months old. Hatched may 23rd. It seems like one of the bourbon red always has a darker red neck. Is this possibly an indicator of it being a male, as we see in Roosters?

Thanks for any help.

I hate to be the wet blanket at this party. BUT be very careful with your turkeys (our) turkeys that have bonded to us.

They think of us as turkeys, BIG large turkeys. They will most likely not challenge us for the pecking order spot we hold. Hence, they are submissive to us and we take that as cute and love even. It is not. We humans are easy to fool when we want to by what we see.

An 8 year old is another story. They will easily challenge a kid.

I never let kids near my birds unless I am there an between the two of them. Especially the Toms.

I am not saying every time there will be a problem, but there can be..

Ralphie the wet blanket....Night all!

R2elk...due to my professional & foundation affiliations I have to have a Facebook account for those reasons only. But don't accept "friends" and will never post anything. I do find that hen interesting...I'm just curious about it...overly curious about these things.

Fortunately for me I am unemployed and can make my own rules. If someone else wants to submit the photos, I give my permission.

I would just as soon not have a FB account too, View attachment 1129299 having a wife, she decided to make one for me..Lucky me..
:lau:lau:lau
Fortunately for me I live alone and do not have to share decision making (or follow orders). I was told by a friend that I would not make a good husband because I don't do what I am told to do. There are times that I feel sorry for her husband.
