We had deal with frozen pipe mess this mornin too. Mama had a water softener installed a few years ago and on cold nights it will kick off the breaker in the pump house now. :/. Both our homes use the same well and pump. if there is the least bit of resistance it kicks it. Last night it decided do it. Blah! So til bout noon we had no water. Then when the heat lamp did its job there was a dumb leak. :barnie. Husbeast and son the young (he is 21) got that all fixed after mornin huntin. But til then i was meltin ice from water buckets on the s tove in a big ole pot.... and cussin meself for not fillin jugs and keepin em in the laundry room like i know to do in winter. :duc. But life is good. We gots water. And i filled jugs and set em in the corner of me laundry room for next time. I got the last border put on a quit i been workin on today and that king sized beast is ready go to the quilter :celebrate. And i got an easy peasy baby one quilted and finished today.

All feathered fowl are locked in their coops and have been since Christmas (chickens have their plastic covered run too). I'm glad the turkey coop has a light and plenty of room though. Their coop isn't insulated and it has tiny little ice crystals creeping all around the walls inside but it's noticeably warmer in there than it is outside.

It was nine degrees at the coldest that night. The valve at the softener gets a tinny bit of ice or even debris and it cuts the breaker. It is dumb! They ended up addin another heat lamp directed just on that valve. Cause when they breaker dumps the pump doesnt work either. Dumb dumb dumb. So we get frozen pipes. I understand why mama wanted the softener... cause well water has so much minerals and iron in it... but dang i would rather deal with rusty lookin tub and toilet and sinks than this crap. Hopefully this spring we will be able get a new pump for our spring and be able use it again. Many years ago there was a bad drought here and the spring that feeds our well dried up so my dad hooked our home to their well. The sistern is full for ours now so we shouldnt have any problems usin it now.
