A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Not turkey related, I got two new mutt “Easter Eggers” today that have cream legbar lineage so more blue of eggs but produce a larger egg more frequently. Got 2 to give them a try since they’re a new mutt from a local hatchery.

I’ve gotten the humidity to 36% so I won’t fuss with it too much.

Question: how much is a fair price for a day or two old poult you hatch? Bourbon red so not super rare or from fancy lineage. Around $15 I’d assume?..
Mine go for 15$ per bird as well, but there's only me with the heritage turkey as far as I know, in this area. Big R charges a little bit more for their poults.

Hopefully the hen and the nanny don't gang up on you at the same time:gig

Lol! No joke right?!?! I have gracie’s ticket.... apples. She gets apples after we fight on the milk stand. So she keeps comin back. I know i shouldnt treat her bad behavior but i also know each day we fight a lil less and she has never been on a milk stand so apples she gets.

I had success last year running 45% humidity but so far this year two have drowned in the egg. so I'm running it dry now at about 38%
These were some of my first eggs and were a little smaller then the ones I'm getting now.
I think maybe this has something to do with it.

So whoever is delivering chick shipments lately to the area (on Friday only) is messing up something bad... like when 40 of 350 chicks are alive for the second week in a row. Same hatchery on a Thursday arrives 100% alive, Friday batch is like 20% alive.... it’s heartbreaking.

They have cyanosis of the extremities and some had bubbling/discharge around the mouth so I’m thinking they were left near some diesel exhaust and/or not temperature controlled. Ugh...

Oh no, that's awful! Have you filed a complaint with the PO?

Pebbles and Mary have been driving me nuts with this broody stuff this year. Mary was the first to go broody but was easy to break. Pebbles started sitting a couple weeks ago and when she does, she's super stubborn and will starve herself. Mary has decided that she'll join Pebbles since I can't break her but she's only in the nest about half as much as Pebbles is. Well this morning, I took a couple Olive egger cockerels that hatched overnight out for Pebbles to raise for a week or so to hopefully break her. When I went in to check on her, this is what I found lol. I don't know if they'll be joint parenting or if Mary even knows that there are babies there but it looks like Pebbles is saying "Welcome to my nest!"
