A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

They don't die, and they will be pets is my guess. Very few people can resist the charms of a turkey.

X2 lol

So didja have the dux and hated them? Or jus hate the dux in general? :lau. We are thinkin of addin the dux here and need pros AND cons... and people who have the dux are so not biased.

I'm not huge on Dux but they do have the cute factor lol. I like my muscovies. They're very quiet (don't quack) and are quite happy to free range over swimming. All ducklings are a pain to brood though since they're so messy.

The only problem with that is I live in a neighborhood in CA. I'm moving them to a friend's pasture once they get big enough. So he is more than welcome to keep a breeding pair but I doubt my neighbors would like to see a turkey in their yards. Haha. I do have a 6 ft fence around my yard but I heard that's nothing for a turkey even with its wings clipped. So unfortunately me keeping them is not in the cards while we're at this house.

You never know, @memphis has a couple turkey hens that are celebrities in her neighborhood lol

Mine lay eggs about the same size as turkey eggs and lay most of the year. They are also big enough to be good eats. Huge pain when it comes to plucking unless you catch them at the right time of year. Mine free range as well, but love the little creek. And mine are quite vocal. They are so cute when they hatch and make a mess of the brooder that's almost unbelievable... Once on pasture they aren't messy, but do enjoy their kiddie pool or any other source of water.

Pebbles seems to be over her baby now and her baby has fully adapted to following his new chicken mom Ana :)

aurora, wasn't it your girl with the girl scouts? That would be a cute pic for savkel to see. BTW, did anyone mention that we are enablers?:lau

Memphis, I'm sure you've got pix of your girls in the city with kids too...

My turkeys are not as bad of pets as some.... I have even arranged for egghead ( my tom) to get a new home with a lady friend..... I am a sucker for helping others. And besides I have at least one tom in the brooder that's a whole 2 weeks old! And more eggs to hatch within the next 3 weeks so all is good.... someone told me that I don't need 20 toms.
my first go round with turkeys we got 2 royal palm and 2 bourbon reds lost one of the palms at about 3 weeks and the one red that I thought was a hen dies at about 9 weeks..... leaving me with 2 toms, one of witch thought he was a people. They both died of an ax wound that fall, what was I going to do with 2 toms?
